1165939 2010-12-31 06:20:00 Just read in Australia PC Authority that Microsoft's Dutch site accidently let slip that Windows 8 would be released toward the end of 2012.

See this site; news.cnet.com

1165940 2010-12-31 06:25:00 They shouldn't bother with Windows 8.

They need to focus on Windows 7 like they did with XP and improve 7 and update it etc....

1165941 2010-12-31 06:31:00 They should just stop the crap and call it whatever year it happens to be produced in the factory, they could even put on the box which quarter it is and what updates it contains so you know how up to date your copy of Winblows is when you buy it.

So if you buy your comp in December 2010 it should come with Windows 2010 4th quarter release.

1165944 2010-12-31 06:41:00 And updates to newer versions should be free (at least for the quarterly releases)

Although no other OS I can think of uses years for versions - OS X Tiger, Ubuntu etc.

That's a bit soon - Windows 7 hasn't even got a service pack yet :horrified

1165947 2010-12-31 07:30:00 I hope Windows 7 gets at least 2 service packs before it dies off in favor of windows 8. goodiesguy (15316)

It'll be there. Expect BSOD. :D

RC is out, give it a month or three and you'll get the service pack.
