1165499 2010-12-29 19:31:00 I only discovered this morning that Dennis Dutton had died. For a man who did so much for improving the how to find a good read on the internet, I found out about it through the Dom Post.

His Arts and Letters Daily (http://www.aldaily.com/)web site was a one stop shop for anyone who wanted to read some of the better quality writing on the internet, a place to challenge your thinking on issues and understand other perspectives.

Dennis was a long time president of the NZ Skeptics (http://skeptics.org.nz/), and contributed greatly to critical thinking in New Zealand as I recall was a regularly in the news for debunking various paranormal claims. I see on one of the obituaries, one of his students indicates that he taught his students how to think critically and how she was grateful for this.

Anyways - here is the obituary from the SMH.

1165500 2010-12-29 20:55:00 A Gentleman in all respects. A fine mind, and a wicked sense of humour.

He will be missed.

Thanks for posting this, 12V. Some people called Arts & Letters Daily the 'best website in the world'.

It was almost required daily reading for politicians, thinkers (not too sure if I should couple them in the same sentence), movers and shakers.

I hope the new Editor maintains the same high standards, he/she has a formidable reputation to emulate. Professor Dutton was planning on retiring in the New Year, so he would have chosen his successor well with the object of handing on the baton.

Thanks Dennis. You leave the world a better place for your efforts
