| 1165459 | 2010-12-29 08:55:00 | Interesting, but they were still here first. I hope there are no sad sacks who will try to kick the maori out of deals/treaties because they aren't indigenous. It may have some legal implications, someone is bound to find a loophole and exploit it. |

| 1165460 | 2010-12-29 09:10:00 | Do you believe maoris oral history or carbon dating? On TV program motorway patrol you see maoris who cant remember what they did 10 minutes ago let alone 900 years. I would run with the half life of carbon as to how far back they where here before the Dutch discovered NZ. |

| 1165461 | 2010-12-29 09:49:00 | Indigenous peoples are people, communities, and nations who claim a historical continuity and cultural affinity with societies endemic to their original territories that developed prior to exposure to the larger connected civilization associated with Western culture.Using that definition, I would say Maori are indeed the indigenous people of the vast majority of NZ. As were the Moriori | Myth (110) | ||

Who is a Maori? Define Maori, is 1/26 a Maori or is that cherry picking your ancestry. Just because I am something like 20% British doesn't make me British. Maths tends to suggest over 50%+ ancestry/blood is a Maori, but we all know that view is hated in this country as the Maori electrol role would be reduced by 95% + lol. But this scam will keep on for decades yet! |

| 1165465 | 2010-12-29 10:38:00 | How can anybody believe an oral history?, the Maoris could spout any old bollocks, (canoes (web.archive.org) across thousands of miles of ocean, come on!) a written history would have helped (oh, that's right, the white fellas brought that skill with them); I would imagine they had no concept of time measurement either, so how did they figure out how long they'd been here?. | feersumendjinn (64) | ||
| 1165466 | 2010-12-29 11:05:00 | How they get away with these fairy stories is what amazes me, it shows what morons and imbeciles are running this country. I guess it's a forlorn hope that it'll ever change, and the Maori party/seats and their aparthied sympathisers get tossed out. Only when the Chinese outnumber the rest of us, I suppose. :D:eek::D |

Just a point feer, if they didn't arrive in canoes, how did they arrive? |
