| 1166323 | 2011-01-02 19:09:00 | On one point I disagree with Laws. Out of pure respect for the family's wishes, the photo should be dropped from Facebook. Wanna tribute.. do it in your own home. Don't throw the photo in the public arena for anyone and everyone to grab and use as they wish. If it were any one of our kids/grandkids that died, and we discovered the picture on Faceboook posted by a non-family member, I am sure a vast majority of us would want the picture taken down too. The real issue here is not the DPB as some suggest. The real issue is drug abuse (meth/p/alcohol). Look at the list of kids killed, and then look at the common issues. Mainly lower socio-economic households, with alcohol/violence/drugs. It not what money they are receiving, but more what they are spending the money on. A bunch of braindead f-wits trying to be parents and look after children while enjoying life. Not "lets buy food for the kids" but "go see the cuz and see if you can score" I see the same bs within the in-laws (all Maori) - just minus the violence. Dumb f#$%s. Yes there is an issue, yes we have told them they have an issue, but until they accept there is an issue, what the hell do you do? All we can really do for now is keep an eye on the situation, and rescue the kids when the need arises |

| 1166324 | 2011-01-02 19:19:00 | Unfortunately the morons of 'pro human-rights' groups will say that having kids is a right . Not so . Having kids is a right for those that will raise them lovingly . The kindest thing you can do for the likes of the Kahuis' or Nia Glassie's parents is castration . And I'm not even joking here . But unfortunately it will take the deaths of these kids for society to see that they are not fit parents, but so be it, castrate them now and prevent any other poor souls from being born into loveless families . This is the difference in attitudes . If my wife and I want to adopt, we are made to jump through hoops, spend thousands on legal fee's and other costs, we get police checked, CYF checked, the whole 10 yards and a bit more to make sure we are going to be good parents and even after the adoption, we still get checked . But one's like the Kahuis to name just one, they can breed like rabbits, have no income, live as they please, unless there is a child abuse report, no one checks up on them and even then not a lot seems to be done, no one tells them they cannot have more babies, the list goes on . My neice cannot have children but 8 years on, she and her husband have given up trying in NZ, the cost and legal hoops have worn them down . Lot of parents, I use the term *parents* tongue in cheek, have children they cannot care for, let they are allowed to keep them and have another one and another one . . . . . . . . . . . . . |

For me, Having a face put to the event certainly makes it hit harder. |

A very good point . Where does the money go to . What they are doing in Australia, I am unsure how it works, at places like Tennent Creek, they don't pay the money to the parents . Not sure if it is everyone in a defined area or familes that have come to there attention . The do gooders made a fuss about the idea when it was introduced . I also beleive something similair is done in Perth, WA where money is withheld from families that have come to the attention of which ever agencies it is there . Not sure how they get there food and pay the bills but at least they cannot spend the whole lot on booze or junk food, at least thats the idea behind it anyway . |

The card may be used at pre-approved retail stores (supermarkets etc), but cash withdrawals, alcohol or tobacco purchases are barred. Why not extend the use of this already operating system? |

| 1166329 | 2011-01-02 20:17:00 | How about a two-tiered benefit scheme. A base level for unemployed and DPB, and a higher level for those who have taken reliable steps to limit family size. eg Vascectomy, or the 3-month injectible 'pill'... present a medical cert every 3 months to prove you're still applying birth control to continue to get the higher benefit. The oral contraceptive doesn't qualify, as it's vulnerable to the incompetent administration of the user. Entirely voluntary... but with a financial and social incentive. |

| 1166330 | 2011-01-02 20:23:00 | Unfortunately the present system encourages people to have more kids as in they get paid to have them. Others who do not have kids get taxed to support kids that are not their own. And even better, people who do not have kids ( like Helen Clarke ) get to tell parents how to raise kids. |
