2011-01-01 23:39:00 | Stop the DPB for all new mothers from now onwards. In 10 or 20 years time that will save us millions and build a better society. Let them look after their children or their family, or the father ! or charity. Its a career option for too many young girls and a life style for too many deadloss men who want to find one so they can live off them.

2011-01-02 00:09:00 | So I don't actually see any solution offered by Laws, Its known that before you can fix a problem you have to accept there is one, Denial and sweeping it under the carpet is just getting more children killed. If the Maori community put their money and effort into halting this disgrace rather then blaming all their problems on colonisation then they would be far better off as a people, and we as a country. Only one part of NZ is pushing for separatism and a different status from everyone else based on race, But they won't take ownership of issues within their ranks. Sure there are measures that can be taken by the larger population, But the grievance industry would simply use these as propaganda to ensure that their audience feels more alienated and therefore angrier and more prone to criminal behavior.

2011-01-02 01:08:00 | So he is a hero now because the mother of the dead child asked for the photo to be taken off his Facebook page, and he refused. Sounds like a lack of empathy for a grieving mother more than a heroic stand. So I don't actually see any solution offered by Laws, although no doubt we'll hear the answer is even more sensible sentencing, given that tougher sentences are really the only solution some of you have for anything. In the mean time, it will be a chance for the racist minority to espouse their uninformed views about Maori land claims, as if it has some relevance to the case in question. But it was different in the old days when you got a wallop with a stick, yeah right. I guess you have the solution then? If so please share it with us!

2011-01-02 01:11:00 | Its known that before you can fix a problem you have to accept there is one, Denial and sweeping it under the carpet is just getting more children killed.. If the acceptance is that Maori are over represented in crime figures, well I never met anyone who didn't know that or tried to sweep it under the carpet. If the Maori community put their money and effort into halting this disgrace rather then blaming all their problems on colonisation then they would be far better off as a people, and we as a country. What exactly would their money be going towards and why is it their responsibility? Only one part of NZ is pushing for separatism and a different status from everyone else based on race, Are you seriously suggesting all of Maoridom is pushing for separatism?. But they won't take ownership of issues within their ranks. So you're saying society should be separated along race lines in terms of taking responsibility for sorting out issues, exactly the opposite of what you say in the previous sentence. Sure there are measures that can be taken by the larger population, But the grievance industry would simply use these as propaganda to ensure that their audience feels more alienated and therefore angrier and more prone to criminal behavior. Presumably your "measures" are the one you usually suggest of more hangings, more prisons or more beatings, then yes I think you may be on to something in suggesting that will alienate people and make them angry.

2011-01-02 01:16:00 | I will agree with Laws on this one. Problem with Pollies and charities / help groups is many are very PC and too afraid to speak the truth or too busy hiding there heads in the sand. Until Maori stand up and admit that they have a problem and take ownership of there problem(s), then nothing will change. In the meantime, some Maori, maybe the Maori Party will suggest that even more funding for TeReo or what ever will help. Of course, anything can be solved by throwing money at it............ First things first, put the ambulance at the top of the cliff rather than at the bottom and solve the root cause. Second, maybe all the money that Maori already get in settlements and from there own extensive business interests could be filtered down to helping there own people at the bottom of the heap instead of always holding there hands out for more tax payer money. Probably like many of you, I know some Maori's, the one's I know are hard working, they struggle alongside you and I to pay there mortgages and make sure there is food on the table for the kids. The one common theme I hear all the time from them is that they are sick and tired of hearing the other half of Maori complaining about how hard off they are and holding there hands out for more money and more settlements.

2011-01-02 01:53:00 | Perhaps instead of worrying about "who owns the seabed and foreshore", teaching kapa-haka in schools and how we should pronounce certain place names, the tribes, iwi and all the rest should be worrying about keeping their babies safe!! | Pato (2463) | |
2011-01-02 03:44:00 | If the acceptance.... Seriously, they are the very worst and most worthless "rebuttals" I have ever read, They don't even rate as rebuttals just some pretty stupid questions for the sake of it. If you seek intelligent debate then bring some intelligence, You should be ashamed of that twaddle.
