How profitable my bad health is for the government. :( The same poll found that of 200 smokers, 98 per cent have tried to give up at some point and 84 per cent would be happy if the Government chose to ban tobacco sales outright. Yes, exactly. Not easy to quit. If smoking is banned, we'll all quit and live happily ever after. Maybe they should legalize weed instead, tons of money to be made there. 1166198	2011-01-01 08:24:00	Yep. But I'm paying taxes for upkeep of the roads and cyclists don't! A specious argument. At the risk of hijacking this thread, I own two vehicles, both of which are licenced to be driven on the road to pay for the 'damage' they do to the road when being given. When I am not driving them, and I am on my bike (which does no damage to the road - it only weighs 8 kg) my vehicle licensing is still valid, even though I am not using the vehicle I have paid a license for. There's a horrendous ACC levy in there as well. And I am self-employed, si I get hit twice in the pocket there for ACC too. Whilst not a smoker myself, I had an uncle that had smoked since he was 14 and was a continuous smoker . His hands were black with nicotine and to hear him cough in the morning was something to behold . Anyway, he died of Lung Cancer and Anti Smoking Lobby claimed it as an example of what smoking does to you . He was 87 . So, I’d like to see how the statistics on smoking illnesses are gathered . I shouldn’t be surprised if we have another “Michael Mann’s Global Warming Hockey Stick Chart” on our hands . Anyway, if the Government are so sure Smoking is such problem, why don’t they ban it completely? Put Tobacco in the same category as Marijuana and the other drugs . The previous Government were big on telling me what was healthy and it seems the present one is no better . Next thing they’ll insist I eat muesli! :eek: Stuff that!	B.M. (505)
