Windows 7 SP1 Release Candidate is out. This is not the final version. I have had it installed on my computer for a few weeks now and have not had any problems so far.

1165950 2010-12-31 07:52:00 And Win8 will be claimed to be bigger, stronger, faster, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, more secure, blah, blah.

In reality it will be buggy and full of new security holes, and will eat up RAM and CPU cycles more than any of it's predecessors. Oh, and you won't be able to find any of the OS shortcuts in the usual place. They'll be re-located to different folders and given obscure names... like the Printers section of Control panel being warped to "Devices and Printers" - yeah, I look under "D" always when I want to configure "P"rinters... it's just common sense isn't it!

Ahh, the MS experience. The only thing guaranteed will be that your time will be wasted learning your way through the new OS.

Funny. typing "Printers" into my start menu gets me to the correct location. You must be doing it wrong.

1165953 2010-12-31 08:41:00 When I said that, I was aware of the release candidate, but didn't count it as it wasn't final software. pcuser42 (130)
1165954 2010-12-31 08:42:00 I bought my first DOS based computer in 1987. Programme size was then measured in kilobytes not gigabytes. It had a 10 Megabyte hard drive (the shop owner told me that I would never fill it up). I was able to create a menu to load programmes using 'edlin'.

My next computer had a flash new operating system called Windows 3.11.

I have used all the new Windows Operating Systems since then apart from Windows 2000 and Windows Millennium. Each new Operating System does offer a learning challenge and can be buggy till fixed by Service Packs.

I would not like to go back to the days of DOS or Windows 311. Today you can do a lot more with programmes due to advancements of computer hardware, programmes and operating systems. Lets hope that Windows 8 is an improvement and not a disaster.

Precisely, it is rumored to have 3D desktop, requiring minimum 170mb VRAM

True release candidate is not the final version. It is still being developed tested. SP1 is certainly on the way though.

1165957 2010-12-31 09:59:00 If the SP doesn't require you to upgrade your computer and replace all your software, Ballmer will be toast before Easter. R2x1 (4628)
