1200370 2011-05-08 10:24:00 Hi I have recently had my laptop stolen and i have a lot of jpg files on an external harddrive that i cannot access off my new laptop.
They are hidden by the program free hide folders which works great but i have installed it on my new comp but as the program has no record of the folders on the external hard drive i can not open them.
Is there any way i can bypass the free hide folder system to recover them.

Is there any software that i can obtain that would 'read" the hidden files and folders so i can download them

many thanks
Peter

1200371 2011-05-08 10:53:00 looks like the software is doing exactly whats its designed to do.

You could always Contact the manufacture here (www.cleanersoft.com) - explain what has happened, and if they believe you they may be able to advise.

Convincing them that you are the owner of the files could be the "fun" part. ;)

1200373 2011-05-08 11:31:00 Maybe data recovery software will do it.

Maybe something like Recuva (www.piriform.com) or maybe even This one ( They are free, there are better options available, but they are paid. One that I use often is Getdataback (http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm" target="_blank">www.powerdatarecovery.com/). They are free, there are better options available, but they are paid. One that I use often is Getdataback (http:) - its free to try, but requires payment to recover files.

BUT - I dont think is so much a recover operation, more along the lines of a "hidden / Protected mode" in other words doing what its designed to do.

Even if any recovery program finds the data OK, you may find it wont extract it, due to the password protection (assuming you passworded it) The program Free Hidden, may have "locked" it so to speak. There may be a "backdoor" way of getting in, whether they tell you is another matter.

Unless someone else can come up with a solution, you may have to wait a day or so for a reply from your emails.

1200374 2011-05-08 12:20:00 +1 for getdataback. Use the free trial see if it can see the data, if it does pay the money and get you files. Petja (16002)

They are hidden by the program free hide folders

Why would you do that??

1200376 2011-05-08 20:44:00 Google "free fide folder recover files" - second hit:

"Ok, for people who want to recover hidden files/folders that were hidden by Free Hide Folder, use the program Total Commander to do so...

The Free Hide Folder simply renames your folder and set it to be like a System Folder... so, using the Total Commander Software, look for a nasty renamed system folder where your folder should be and copy your files to another place.

That's it.."

It may help?

1200377 2011-05-08 22:26:00 Or you could try a bootable Linux CD. mikebartnz (21)
1200378 2011-05-08 22:49:00 ZTreeWin will also show all files regardless of status (and allow moving, status changes, renaming etc) but unless you were an XTree Gold user or are familiar with command-line activities it would be better to use a Windows based program.

ZTreeWin finds files that an OS based search can't.

PCTech there are actually more folders of personal files and pdf's than just jpgs but the jpgs were of a friends wedding in a folder with some other files that were locked and were really important to me and i was gutted that i had lost them
