1459724 2019-04-02 02:02:00 Good afternoon,

I am wanting to download my Messenger conversations to keep as a record but Messenger won't give me the option to save as an HTML file, only JSON which is not what I want. Please see the attached pic.

Can anyone advise as to why it won't work? Other members of the family are able to save their conversations as HTML in Facebook but I don't have Facebook, only Messenger.

1459725 2019-04-03 02:32:00 FB allow you to 'download a copy of your information' - this is in settings, then 'Your Facebook information'. You can select what you want to download (just messenger conversations for example) then copy out just the specific one you want.

I think you can still login to facebook.com with just your messenger details?

No, you have to have a Facebook account, not just a Messenger account. My Messenger account is accessed by my phone number and password, not with an email address which Facebook requires.

As in my previous post, I can download a copy of my information, just not in HTML format which is what I want.

1459727 2019-04-03 19:47:00 if you save the conversations to json, then you can open them in various programs. Firefox is one, there are several Have a read fileinfo.com

The only problem may be it may not display how you would normally see it in Messenger.

If Messenger on its own wont save as html, then that's the way its designed.

You can also try doing a google search for "convert json to html" There are plenty of results, so simply download the json file upload to convert. Obviously results may differ.

1459728 2019-04-04 08:18:00 Yes, I can open and view the conversations in Firefox and a text editor but neither are pretty. The JSON file doesn't convert to HTML very well and certainly doesn't look like the Facebook HTML version. I thought there may have been an issue with my messenger for some reason but it appears that the program just doesn't have Facebook's bells and whistles. Oh well, thanks to all for your interest, it was worth a try. tommy (2826)
