1459517 2019-03-28 02:29:00 I can burn cd's ok but I am unable to burn dvd's on same burner. Tried several burner programs which work ok on different pc. Light on burner says that it is burning and I get 'burn completed successfully' message but there is nothing on disc which still reads as empty.
Are there any setting for drive that I can check?
Thanks

1459518 2019-03-28 03:21:00 Have you just tried the built in windows burning options? I rarely burn disks these days, mainly just iso images of linux, and for those all you need to do is right click the file and choose burn to disk - no other software needed.

Could be a hardware fault though, the DVD tracks require a different amount of laser power and focus so it's possible the laser might be good enough for CDs but not DVDs. Just a thought.

I think burning disks is rapidly becoming a thing of the past though, there are easier ways to do most things.

1459519 2019-03-28 04:45:00 There might be something stupid like a 'test' write going on. This used to happen with authoring movies and menues onto a disc. The software would go through the lengthy process of authoring / compiling the video format etc, including doing a pretend burn, which actually just tests that the computer can put through the data at a rate that will be sufficient to complete a real burn without any glitches.

Maybe there's some little tick box somewhere in the setup that actually makes it write to disc, instead of pretend write to disc.

And, you haven't got an old DVD drive have you? ONce they used to do only certain ones. DVD+ or DVD - for instance.

Yours does all? Or just certain of them?

1459524 2019-03-28 21:19:00 My Lite-on burner had similar symptoms. I studied the problem and determined it had died. I always intended to replace it and at the time PBTech had very affordable ones. As I subsequently realized, I so rarely need the drive so it never happened. Tbird650 (6754)
