If you decide to install other drivers, make a restore point first. AND the most important thing -- If you make any changes ONLY change 1 thing at a time, that way if something does go bad you know what the cause was. |

Yep all stays as it is for now and maybe for some time. I noticed that the Driver I DL'd for the RX580 yesterday has the same version number as that which it shows as being installed anyway. So, no changes happening here. If and when I do apply an updated Driver for the RX580 or the 2400G I will certainly create Restore points before any uninstall/instal new drivers. Thanks for the link to the DDU uninstaller. I love apps that do a complete uninstall and have a few of them, such as MS Office remover and Revo Pro Uninstaller and the DDU app will be getting tucked away in that folder of apps. Cheers Garry |

| 1459261 | 2019-03-24 17:30:00 | Problem with the 'noise' from computer again. Yesterday afternoon about 3pm, I heard the faint grating sound similar to that of the RW heads touching the platters in an HDD or its motor showing wear and tear symptoms. I didn't mention it earlier because the sound only lasted 10-15 seconds and in no way did it build up to the highly audible sound like a working concrete mixer I mentioned in earlier comment. So I let it go. About an hour ago (12 hours after the sound heard yesterday) I again heard the grating/bubbling sound only this time it was very audible. I again gave the computer the eyeball/ear close to inspection with a finger touch to try to determine where the noise is being generated. Tonight's check was faster then the one a couple days ago because I had learned a couple things in the interim. 1/ the PSU Fan does not spin ( it kicks into a short spin when computer is turned on but after that as far as I know it is idle. I have stood and watched it for 10 minutes to see if it start/stops when things need cooling inside its case.) 2/ the GPU Fans do not spin. The GPU case gets warm as do the two cooling pipes at the top of it. I assumed and figured from info learned from reading up on GPU/PSU/CPU fans for that to be normal and the fans would kick in as and when needed. I never had a GPU the size of that which I now have so am not familiar with Fanned GPU's as my EVGA GT 710 was Passive cooling. The Wraith Spire Fan is running full speed far as I have observed. Ok so after having gotten the 'Driver issue' sorted out I was hoping the 10 second grating of yesterday to be just a teething prob. But the loud sound I heard an hour ago slumped my heart. So I got up and immediately gave attention to the GPU, because I knew the fans were not spinning yesterday. Same tonight. No Fans spin, gave the 8 and 6 pin power connectors a wiggle to ensure firmly in place, case is quite hot to the fingers test and the two stainless steel pipes at the top of the case were very hot I would say. Decided to out the GPU, shut down, removed it and now am running without it installed. So far so good. Silence is golden. Too early to form a conclusive analysis. The GPU (Radeon Sapphire Nitro + 8GD5) I bought from Trade me on the 26th Feb, received it 4th March, installed and started using it about 10 days ago. Prior to its install the computer ran quiet. I bought the GPU from a trader in Trade me, he hadn't answered my question if it had been used for mining so after waiting 4 days for a response and it had come to the final hour of bidding and the Buy Now was still $280, I bought it. Had issues with it not arriving in 4 days and Tracking had no record of its Tracking number in their system I emailed the seller and unleashed some invective. We had a email war then the card arrived a day or two later. Happy as a pig in it, I installed the card and got driver for it and caused myself problems doing that which are now resolved. Two day after solving the driver issue I am again served the Grating sound. Having given the info above I am at a loss because I do not have another rig in which I can test run the GPU to see if it creates the grating/no fans spin/hot case and pipe symptoms. Now do I know anyone with a rig that runs PCIe 3 Cards. So it's going to be a 24 hour use without it in to see if the sounds return or not, and then a reinstall of the card to se if the sounds return. I do have another set of the 8 and 6 pic connector cables I can use to check the used ones are ok. If it is the card is duff fans I am not going to be a happy chappy at all - at all. The seller did tell me in the email exchange that he had used it for mining and always had it running at low temps (yeah yeah yeah they all say that) 24/7. He sent me a pic of his mining setup, 12 of these same cards all hooked up. At a cost of about $8k-K10k there must be some Bitty nuggets in them thar hills to be uncovered. If it is the card and the fans don't spin I will be demanding a cash refund. Don't fancy my chances of that happening. Divine intervention needed. I may get HWMonitor app so I can get some Temp readings and check them out against given data. That's it, folks. I will update when I can Cheers. Garry |
