Simply run Ccleaner or disk cleanup, then follow instructions in #2.

Seen this happen quite a few times, with all sorts of sites throwing in advertising, from shopping channels to Porn and everything in between.

Thank you Wainui. Unfortunately I do not have that little box in the bottom right corner. I have run Ccleaner. I'll see how that goes.

1459860 2019-04-11 04:35:00 Thank you Wainui. Unfortunately I do not have that little box in the bottom right corner. I have run Ccleaner. I'll see how that goes. It will be there still working, its the only place "pop-ups" from bottom right can come from.

Have a read of the following fix-action-center-notifications-not-working-windows-10-1809/ (pureinfotech.com)

You can also simply disable the notifications as well (same place) as well as previous Settings to disable.

Thank you Wainui. Unfortunately that link was for W10 users. I'm running W8.

But I suspect it does not matter. I ran Ccleaner as you advised and I have not seen any popups since then. That was a few hours ago so it does seem that that has done the trick. Thanks very much for your help.

1459862 2019-04-11 08:06:00 In Chrome/Settings/Advanced/scroll down to System, turn "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed" off by moving slider to the left position.

N.B. this needs to be done in Edge as well, the latest version is a truncated version of Chromium which has the same problem so I have read.

Thanks very much for your help. Okayyyyyyyyyy That little bit of info would have been better given at the beginning ;) Theres several OS's being used from W7 to W10, and they are all different in one way or another.

I personally reccommend running Ccleaner after finishing each day (or at least every couple of days) it only takes a few seconds and saves a truck load of weird and unwanted problems from temp internet files. :)

Thank you, Zqwerty. I have turned that off, but I don't know what or where Edge is. Will you help me there, please.

1459866 2019-04-11 20:59:00 Edge is Win10's new browser to eventually replace IE gary67 (56)

Unless you have specifically downloaded and installed Edge you do not have it. See Gary's post #18

1459868 2019-04-11 22:38:00 you need to address the cause of those popups, not just block the symptoms 1101 (13337)
