1459203 2019-03-20 21:46:00 Internet Explorer shows in the taskbar. Also browsers can apparently be identified by the symbol top right for settings, cog wheel= IE, 3 dots= Chrome, etc. I have updated Chrome and reset it to default, but all webpages are still downloading in IE. For some reason the default setting is being ignored and overridden by IE. WHY????? Richard (739)
1459204 2019-03-20 23:55:00 Do you use outlook to download emails? If so look in its settings to see what browser it is set to open links with gary67 (56)
1459205 2019-03-21 01:38:00 Yes, I use Outlook. I've been through all the settings and can't the one you describe. Richard (739)
1459206 2019-03-21 02:02:00 Is chrome set to default in the Default apps / simply telling chrome to be the default (either in chrome or if it asks) wont change it. wainuitech (129)
1459207 2019-03-21 02:24:00 Yes Wainui it is set as default through 'settings'. Richard (739)
1459208 2019-03-21 20:24:00 I've tried all settings I can find, and IE is still acting as the default. I am running out of ideas on what to try next. Is there any way I can block IE from starting. Shame I can't remove it entirely. It is weird that Microsoft replace it with Edge, but still leave IE as part of W10. Richard (739)
1459209 2019-03-21 23:34:00 I think my problem may lie in the fact that I use "pinned websites" on the start screen. These were probably created in IE, and retain this connection when reopened. How can I resave these sites so they will open in whatever browser I have set as my default, be it Chrome or Edge? Richard (739)
1459210 2019-03-22 00:14:00 You should be able to import them as Favourites from IE to Chrome or Edge etc. You might need to save them as Favorites in IE first. I believe anything you have pinned to Start is going to open in IE or Edge (whatever you pinned them from). Your last post is actually the answer you have been looking for. CliveM (6007)
1459211 2019-03-22 07:52:00 You need to do the setting in "Set Default Programs" or whatever it is called in Windows 10. zqwerty (97)

Thanks Clive. You are right in that I had found the answer. All the icons I was using were IE created and of course opened in that browser. Even Google was an IE icon and opened any sites asked for in IE. I have now replaced all with Edge icons (the option was already there in settings) and made Edge my default. I would have preferred Chrome but that was a much longer process to change them all. I am probably mad in using tablet mode, with icons for all my popular sites, organised into categories such as News and Info, Banking and Finance, Personal, etc etc, But it is a format which suits my use
