1462587 2019-07-21 05:18:00 I just received my second one of these. When I got the first one, I followed the instructions on the IRD website to report a scam, and they didn't acknowledge receiving my report.

It makes me wonder whether IRD actually want reports at all - has anyone else reported and got a response?

First 2 for my tax refund and third was for their online mail box.

Definately a scam. I would report it as a public service and forget it.

1462591 2019-07-21 22:54:00 Yes - I got an email supposedly from IRD this morning. Unfortunately for the senders of the email, they wanted my Credit Card details (and IRD had already paid a refund into my transactional bank a/c about a month ago...).

So - a quick delete :)

1462593 2019-07-22 06:42:00 And still the gullible claim it's "sophisticated" and "hard to spot".
Screamingly obvious, wrong email address, wrong IRD number, the usual grammar, spelling and all the usual:

www.stuff.co.nz

IRD point it out for the really thick....

1462595 2019-07-23 02:34:00 Well, this time IRD did acknowledge my report, though they must be getting sick of the numbers they will have been receiving.

First, there was an automated reply with hints about actions you may like to take if you had been sucked in by the scam... Then there was a second reply that appeared to be from a real person (I have obscured their name):

Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, this is a scam.

We have reported the scammer's web site and hope to have it taken down soon.

1462596 2019-07-23 03:12:00 Why hassle IRD? It's not their fault. Scammers target organisations. It's up to us to be smart enough to read emails properly. piroska (17583)
