Becuse im a noob with this stuff do I have to look for any thing to be compatiable?

Also what does the Data transfer rate and Frequency band mean/do? Is there a real need to get one which accel in these areas?

Look for one that says it supports "G-Wireless" Or 802.11G (May be represented by b/g) and you'll be sweet.
