2011-05-10 09:36:00 | Hi, I have had a second week of using Skype, where in the cursor would freeze and then my inset movie of me, freezes then disappears from my contact's screen Float the cursor over the video icon bottom of Skype's screen and for a few seconds I have normal use before it goes off again After I stopped using Skype, talking, that is- I heard the computer make a sound that it was accepting a program --ie the printer, and would come on the screen, as available, then it would reverse the sound and freeze again When I turned the Epson TZ110 printer off and then tried my contact- I had no trouble with anything while talking to him It looks like the printer tries too go off then on again, causing this freezing etc Can anybody advise what settings I might be having wrong with treagard to this effie c

2011-05-10 21:40:00 | I imagine you have USB devices for camera and printer?....How old is your PC, and how many other USB device (especially unpowered) do you have plugged into the PC... Having said that, freezing is usually memory related, but if you USB 5v rail is getting a large draw from multiple devices, this could explain the freezing as Windows loses contact with USB devices...make sense?

2011-05-10 23:26:00 | Hi Solmeister, Thanks - but the sidebar I have showing RAM and CPU usuage show about 50% used The printer works well when deliberately started, as does Skype but..... When I leave the printer on while using Skype, I hear a "bong-bing" as it tries to access the computer and Skype ( my little video window ) freezes and my contact sees me disappear, after freezing... then I get a "bing-bong" as it drops off and then I can get access and a movable cursor on Skype as normal... five seconds later it freezes again and my video of me drops off.. double dutch? :groan: I tried turning the printer off---re rang my contact and everything is normal, and stays that way----why?... Switch the printer back on and same freeze starts playing silly beggars I surely have enough recources as according to my sidebar Icons- I suggest I have a wrong setting but cannot contact Skype to ask why and what :D effie c

2011-05-11 00:06:00 | Are you plugged into front or rear USB's as front ones often share the same header on the motherboard | gary67 (56) | |
2011-05-11 00:41:00 | Hi gary67, Now that is interesting-- I am plugged into a hub > rear of computer,---O K talk to me babe  To me I must have a conflicting set up, especially in relation to Epsom Printer-but I cannot see where I can change that,---the printer came from Warehouse Stationery, as a clearance sale--but when I go to try updating the drivers, I get "Your area is not supported by Epson as yet" The printer can't be a "pirate" so to speak as it has it's own install C D and anyway it has not downloaded, as far as I know, the various software that could have done this-but as said, it is not supported here. I have just returned home, went online and got that bong-bing from the computer--I checked and the printer was "on" , and I don't remember turning it on before I went out, but I had left the computer on anyway---ie could it be auto starting? -- so perhaps the cursor had frozen by this action-- I turned the printer off and there is no more sound coming in, to say the printer was online but I was not even using Skype--could this too be steering at the printer set up? effie c

2011-05-11 02:43:00 | effie, the bing bong (great description) is the PC noise Windows uses when discovering or losing contact with USB devices. This is why I ask the number of USB devices on your system, your RAM and CPU usage isnt the issue. I believe if the skype camera is USB it is losing connection with the PC, the printer may well be on the same motherboard header as the camera. Try changing one of them to the front of back!

2011-05-11 03:43:00 | You need to plug one of the devices preferably the printer into it's own USB port then, at a guess the hub isn't giving enough power when devices are shared through it. Unless of course it's a powered hub. The printer may have an auto start function I suppose which would cause something like that too every time it decided to power on

The camera is not usb then? As it happens I am taking a person to Waikato Hospital next Tuesday so will be in your area at that time late in the afternoon or I could come earlier so as to look at the problem personally before I take this person to the hospital. PM me if you still need help at that time. |

2011-05-11 21:40:00 | Hi Snorkbox, No, the problem is not worth you diverting, thanks all the same. As I said earlier it is irritating rather then a major, and I can live with it- plus, at the moment I am coping with my wife and a 99 year old Aunt who has had an eye removed,at which age the risk, is worrying.( been a long bad year ) I am going to try and see if the camera has an auto start, and maybe try another usb port for it---the hub is power driven Actually you people, all, have given me several options, so I thank all effie c
