2011-01-07 06:53:00 | Just wondering on your thoughts here. TBH, MS need a new console. 360 is becoming an XP. PC's can produce much better graphics than 360's now, we didn't need a shiny console that runs the same games with the same specs, we needed a new mind blowing experience. I played Halo reach for the 1st time on an HDTV and the poor anti aliasing made me actually search to see if the 360 even supported anti aliasing technology. It was shocking! This was supposed to be the final BANG! for Halo but all I can remember were jagged sky scrapers. Unfortunate, it can't have been THAT bad but it certainly left an impression (although the rest of the game was pretty amazing) Now, kinect in a NEW console would have been good, great even. support for the "2nd generation 360" (aka slim) perhaps but to try and carry on the old platform? How long do M$ plan to keep the 360 running for? I don't plan on buying a slim any time soon even if my current 360 dies, spec wise it's all ready getting out dated. In my thinking, 360, released 2005? 5 years later and they release a V2, which is a cosmetic makeover and nothing more as far a I know. the games come on the same disk and I doubt you get any performance benefits from the 360 slim over the original. where is the WOW from the Xbox 1 and the 360 when it first appeared? Just wondering what you think really, I feel that M$ is dragging the chains a wee bit :(

2011-01-07 06:59:00 | I recall reading an article which said that Microsoft deliberately introduced lag in the new 360 Slim to simulate the latency of certain aspects of the old chipset. This is because they wanted the new Xbox to behave just like the old one. | somebody (208) | |

2011-01-07 07:10:00 | Here it is: One interesting thing about the new design is the inclusion of a "FSB Replacement" block. IBM/GlobalFoundries could have just connected the GPU and GPU with a low-latency internal connection, but doing so would have made the new Xbox 360 faster than previous versions. The FSB Replacement block actually adds latency to the mix and introduces a performance hit to keep the new model from outpacing older versions. Source:www.maximumpc.com lim

2011-01-07 07:11:00 | None of the console manufacturers are planning on releasing a new console any time soon. The 5 year old consoles are still making them plenty of money & people are still happy with them. Sony, Nintendo & Microsoft don't care that PCs blow their consoles out of the water - the people who care that much about graphics don't bring in enough money to warrant developing a new console for them. Interesting article. I wonder what sort of detrimental effect they thought a slightly faster console would have?

2011-01-07 07:19:00 | The Xbox is just hitting its stride, Its just getting better and better as a platform. If they release a new console in the next 5 years I probably won't bother buying it.

2011-01-07 07:54:00 | Nothing major really. I was just thinking how awesome an i7 would be in a 360, then I thought, hell why ISN'T an i7 in the 360 :D Easier to build a PC than to design a new console then develop games for it though. I'm happy with 306, it could be better but i'm happy. The only thing I hate is the way it refuses to play nice as a media center. blasted codec pack or whatever it is has been no end in trouble

2011-01-07 08:36:00 | IMO the main reasons that the 360 has been so popular is because it was hacked to an extent much longer before the PS3, and it was also out a year before, allowing MS to get a stronger foothold while sony was still polishing up the PS3. Now that fail0verflow have gotten the root key for the PS3, it's only a matter of time before 'backed-up' games are being played on it, homebrew stuff is being made, and linux is running on it again, without a hypervisor this time. Once that happens, I'll be one hell of a lot more interested in getting one. Hell, I only picked up an original xbox because it was completely owned, just cost $80 to get a proper modchip installed, and then it's actually useful to me.
