1167555 2011-01-06 05:21:00 got the xbox 360 connected to a standard tv.

the cable connected to the xbox 360 has at the other end a set of rca plugs and component plugs.

on the back are multiple connections for the 4 AV channels, some of them have the component plugs as well as the rca plugs.

is there an advantage to use component over rca or vise versa??

You have your terms muddled up a bit there. RCA is a type of connector for sending video or audio signals. Both of your outputs will be via RCA connectors.

What I think you mean by RCA is composite video signal. In that case, use component as it is capable of a higher resolution than composite.

1167558 2011-01-06 07:13:00 Well, the signal is analogue in all cases . Component is capable of resolutions up to 1080p the composite will give you 480p .

Depending on the resolutions your TV displays Component may be better . just remember to use the HDTV switch on the 360 adapter or else you will be getting a standard def pic .

With the component cables just go through all the settings untill you find the highest one that works .

If you use another tv and set it to a resolution that is higher that your current one can display, move the HDTV switch to TV and change the display settings accordingly the switch back to HDTV . Very useful . that can also be used if no free composite ports are available and your TV does not support the HD signal (like one of my old JVC LCD's for some reason)

1167560 2011-01-06 07:40:00 Component *may* have a wider colour pallet and give more vivid colours The Error Guy (14052)
