1166662 2011-01-03 18:44:00 With the current work hours, up at 5:15am, bed at 9:30pm. If I don't I'm tired all day.

Alcohol does not help insomnia.
Make sure you stick to a regular pattern.

Dead right there squire.

1166664 2011-01-03 21:36:00 Both SWMBO struggle to sleep in summer due to the heat, but then I suffer insomnia and have done since I was a kid. One problem I have is if I go to bed after midnight I won't sleep but if in bed before even if it's only 5 minutes before I will usually sleep. Probably psychological but I have never found a cure. I sleep a lot less now since I'm not really getting any exercise as such since i'm stuck at home on ACC, I had a physical job so not getting any exercise really impacts on my sleep problem gary67 (56)
1166665 2011-01-04 04:23:00 Insomnia tips that I learned when I was at the University:

ASLEEP is a useful acronym for remembering sleep hygiene tips

Alcohol, caffeine and nicotine should be avoided
Sleep and sex should be the only uses of the bed
Leave laptops, TV and paperwork out of the bedroom
Exercise regularly but not within two to three hours of bedtime
Early rising – avoid sleeping-in or daytime naps
Plan for bedtime – establish a bedtime routine such as having a warm drink or a bath.

1166666 2011-01-04 05:24:00 I've been doing shift work with all sorts of strange hours across time zones for 30 years, I suppose I am lucky in that I can work nights and sleep no problems at all during the day.

The problem I have is trying to sleep at night when I have done *day shift* hours. Though I do very little day hours.

Have no trouble sleeping in aircraft seats or a different bed each/other day.

Whats the secret. Have no idea. Works for me though.
