1202182 2011-05-16 03:23:00 Hi Erger, I did say "upgrade".

Mentioned earlier this machine is XP SP 3.

Lurking.

but then again I was not talking about your machine but asking if the back up and restore on my Win 7 machine is adequate  so we are talking at cross purposes but no harm done

1202184 2011-05-16 23:00:00 wainuitech, have downloaded Paragon free backup/recovery software.

Have done a full backup and created a recovery dvd.

This is much easier than the old MSDos backups of old.

Thanks again for all the help.

Lurking.

Ps. might even try wifey's W7 backup/restore facility for her, not that she does much, mainly prints off onetime cards from an online site.

lurks.

1202185 2011-05-16 23:44:00 I don't use it because it's never actually done anything useful for me.

Every single time I ever tried to use it, it would either not fix the problem or it would complain that it couldn't do the restore.

I think maybe ONCE it fixed a problem, but I don't put much faith in it, so I don't bother.

If I have to reinstall Windows I don't really care, it's an excuse to reinstall Windows!

Hi Agent, tried wifey's W7 backup/restore and pulled away from that quick smart, it's like most of Microsoft's previous Dos backup pain in the butt.

Forget what I used instead back in the 1980's, QDos or something.
