What sort of criminals ?

So I'm not voting.

1166904 2011-01-04 21:01:00 I vote shot ... then I thought that the AOS should shoot some of the less desirables to send a message to the rest of them ... then I remembered that they're better at shooting innocent bystanders than crims ... So much for that brilliant idea ... :(

Yeah, remember that footage on tv a couple of years ago when about 4 AOS guys couldn't shoot a dog, it kept running around.

1166905 2011-01-04 21:56:00 The poll is far too vague and does not define the crime committed. Way back in the 1700s stealing anything with a value of over eight shillings was a capital offence. The lucky ones were sent as convicts to Australia. The poms were using drastic measures to stop crime but I doubt if it worked. Times were hard in England then. Bobh (5192)
1166906 2011-01-04 22:08:00 From the discussions on this and other forums most people seem to sit in one camp or the other, that being we should either be helping "our" criminals to be better persons by keeping them as part of the community and offering them support, or locking them away from the community as punishment.

Our entire youth justice system (which has bred our current crop of adult offenders ) is based on the community system, and it seems to also infected our adult justice system with all efforts made to divert people away from jail time.

The specific crime is irrelevant.

The "shot" option is there because there should always be one :D

Amend 8 shillings to 2 pounds, reference Robert Hughes " The Fatal Shore"
one pound nineteen and eleven - deported to the penal colonies in Australia, for 2 pounds the offender danced at the end of a rope on the Tyburn Gallows (It was popular free public entertainment). The last public hanging was in 1879 in the City of York- an account of which is in the York Castle Museum.]

There were over 700 offences for which an offender could be hanged - attempted murder was not one of them.

1166908 2011-01-04 22:57:00 I voted for you voltz, since you didn't poll seriously:

Kept in society and tolerated as a result of our communities.Given housing, food and freedom.

Nah shoot them it is. Presumably without trial, because the Judges would be too soft.

1166909 2011-01-04 23:00:00 Some of them kill themselves without our help. I hope it happens to more of them.

Yes that victim centred youth justice scheme is a crock, why the hell would anyone want the victim involved in the justice system unless it was of course the option of firing the bullet. Cut out the Police and the Courts, people should be shot by accusation alone, let's face it people would never be accused who weren't guilty as sin.

1166911 2011-01-04 23:04:00 @Snorkbox

It was me that patented the idea of a belt hanging from the roof of each jail cell.

1166912 2011-01-04 23:08:00 Ones that do enough crap to warrant a jail term.

Which in NZ means 4 or 5 years in the youth justice system with potentially 100's of victims, followed by a few dozen appearances in the adult court, and potentially 100's of incidents of breaking the law.

or.

Violent offenders.

Anyhow, Criminals in general, should they receive jail time or be supported in and by the community the offend against?

OK Understand now

So I voted

Looking at the results, we obviously don't have many Green Party members on here.
