1202172 2011-05-15 03:26:00 As silly as this may sound, but I have found that With Vista, once it gets corrupted it can be a real Pain to repair. Previous OS's and W7 no problems.

Lurking; :crying "no videos on how to do an image, without telling me how to save same"

That takes all the fun out of it LOL.

There are many different imaging software programs, some work better than others. The one I have had most success with is Active@disk Image (http://www.disk-image.net/) Its paid software but there is a free trial.

"if" you want me to write out some instructions just holler :D

1202173 2011-05-15 06:11:00 I have system restore OFF, main reason being that it also stores virus and malware.

I make "Acronis" images of the system partition ( 2 partitions with W7).

Yesterday my Dell notebook ran into a swarm of Virus. Microsoft Security did its best but was fighting a loosing battle.

It took 12 minutes to restore the system with Acronis, and all I had to do was update Microsoft Security.

The excuse that people have of "don't know how" is pathetic. If you have a brain use it, even read the instructions or go on a "Senior Nett" course, they are free!

Her indoors knew nothing about computers and bought one at age 65. She has now managed Vista for two years and fixes it herself.

Hi mzee, that's a pretty "low blow", as I have been a member of SeniorNet Canterbury since it's incorporation in 1996, but nowadays grandchildren take first preference, so timing is a problem.

Thanks for taking the time to reply at any rate.

1202176 2011-05-15 09:09:00 I have started using 'Backup and Restore' to an external hard drive of my Win7 machine, it says that it backs up all data and a system image . I also recommends making a boot disc which I have done . . . is that enough? Erger (10062)

So - does the Acronis image not contain the virus and malware that system restore has ?

I always do a full AV scan before making a new image, and make sure that everything is working.
