1166756 2011-01-03 22:33:00 The military call this a Tactical Retreat.

No, no, the military does not call this a tactical retreat. Retreat is a nasty word.

The proper term is tactical withdrawal. :)

The reality is there just aren't enough cops, and most importantly they aren't armed. These scum do not respect nor fear cops...

And if the cop was armed, any of them who were attacked, and they shot at said offenders they'd have to take so much flak from the public for being a bunch of blood thirsty...

x2 "I'd run away if I was unarmed they had had machetes." (pctek)

Last few times through Chch, there side arms have been visible but not really sticking out like a sore thumb. Have seen the same armed police also roaming quietly through dosmetic at Chch.

+2 If I was a lone police officer at 3am in the morning looking at the sharp edge of a very big blade or two, I would also be considering a tactical withdrawal using very big steps..........a police car in reverse can go very fast......

Better to survive the encounter and let a police dog take a big bite out of there rear ends or let the AOS use them for target practise than end up minus your life.

Came across a lone highway patrol car in the buller gorge one morning about 3am couple of years ago, hosing down cats and dogs, he was a very long way from help if someone had got nasty with him/her.

Clearly it was clear to see otherwise it would have been tricky for me to comment.

This was at domestic.

It was said that after "Bloody Sunday"there was a Court of Inquiry in the First battalion the Parachute Regiment"
35 rounds expended, only 13 Paddys Killed, why were 22 rounds wasted?

The best comment was the CO of 1 Para when interviewed on the BBC.
"they chose to confront armed troops, that started it, if they did not want to get hurt they should have stayed at home. "
Excellent reply, in those happy days before all the PC touchy feely crap.

The level of sectarian violence in 72-73 was horrendous, leaving over 1600 dead.

The little yellow card rules of engagement, stipulated that the other side had to commence offensive action before troops were allowed to respond, The start of PC crap!

I have absolutely no sympathy for any criminal scumbag who gets roughed up or even killed by the police - the nation's gene pool is better off without them.

You are not alone.

1166762 2011-01-04 20:26:00 My point is that people (scum bags) will have no respect for the police if they know that they will run away if things get tough.

They just makes them like a joke.
Like the way so many people stopped for driving offences drive off !
