1167174 2011-01-05 00:27:00 Hi, just back from a family trip on the road .

Has anyone tried to obtain Freeview or just the non-HD channels while on the road - think in a car or caravan or just in the hostels in your room? Hostels don't tend to have TVs in your rooms .

Thanks .

Would probably work although if used inside a hostel you would have to drag a 12 volt battery in with you or a transformer. :)

1167177 2011-01-05 00:37:00 Well I guess so for the fully equipped caravans they have the dish on the roof.

But what about a less elaborative approach for a car or the family in the hostel rooom? I know there are USB TV Tuners but not sure how well they work in places like Fiordland, Mackenzie Country etc etc..

Yeah but would that work or does the USB TV Tuners only work in the main cities high up like apartment blocks (if one does not have a tv aerial on the roof).

1167180 2011-01-05 00:42:00 You would still have to plug in an aerial in any event. Use a laptop and take a whole lot of DVD movies with you!! :) Snorkbox (15764)
1167181 2011-01-05 00:45:00 Doesn't the remote areas need a dish than a aerial so it's even a non existent for most people. There's a $$ 3G Stick lol. Nomad (952)
1167182 2011-01-05 02:50:00 Most of the USB tuners are UHF, meaning only available in the main centers. You don't need an aerial if the signal is strong enough, but in most cases you will. pine-o-cleen (2955)
1167183 2011-01-05 06:51:00 Forget UHF in Nelson it's very sporadic which is why we can't get freeviewHD. Most remote areas you will need a dish especially on the SI gary67 (56)
