1203339 2011-05-19 12:29:00 Hi
Because I said I would help, my mission is to save the valuable photographs, etc from an unbootable Acer extensa 5210, before factory reset.
The machine does attempt to boot but shuts down or suggests auto repair which doesn't complete successfully.
I've been able to boot from UBCD with XP interface. I can see some of the necessary files to save. Some folders like documents & pictures are not accessible/access denied.

The issue is in 2 parts:
How do I get the access denied folders open to check for valuable files?

How do I save these as the USB doesnt appear responsive and it looks like the UBCD disc has to be in the CDdrive for it to work as well.
I've got internet connection.
Networking status is: Acer can see my XP desktop + Win7 desktop but neither can see Acer. Perhaps networking isnt possible with UBCD??
Is there a better/best way to find/save these files/folders?

Please advise, thanks.

1203340 2011-05-19 12:39:00 Remove the hdd and put it in a desktop, then get this if the desktop has Vista or Win7 on it (www.howtogeek.com). Unzip it then run it then import it into the registry. Then right mouse on that hdd / take ownership Speedy Gonzales (78)

I love the 'take ownership' registry tweak! Fantastic.

Laptop is up and running again. Easy as that.
Thanks.
