1203190 2011-05-19 03:28:00 Hi,

Unfortunately your post doesn't say exactly which device you've got, however assuming it's something supported by the r8712u driver, you should be aware of the following: The r8712u driver is very new, and was only merged to the mainline staging tree in 2.6.37. Note that drivers in the staging tree are still under development, and may not yet be fully functional or stable.
Your version of Ubuntu comes with an older kernel (2.6.35) - unless you've updated the kernel, your wireless device will not be supported.
If you wish to support this device on your existing kernel, you will need to compile the driver source provided by realtek. Note that this source as supplied is broken, and requires an additional patch before it will work.
Updating your kernel to 2.6.38 should allow you to use this device. It's also included in the default kernel for 11.04, so if you decide to take the opportunity to do a full upgrade of your system, this will also resolve your issue.Your wireless device should be supported pretty much out-of-the-box on Ubuntu 11.04.

More information about this driver can be found here (cateee.net), and the 11.04 kernel configs are here (kernel.ubuntu.com).
