1202840 2011-05-17 11:46:00 Is this USB TV tuner (new.pbtech.co.nz) OK? Or should I get a Hauppauge PCI card? I can't put in a PCIe as there isn't room for it in the box.

Which do you guys recommend?

1202841 2011-05-17 11:59:00 Avermedia are pretty good. I havent got the same tuner, but its an Avermedia USB tuner. And the mini aerial is good (if you're not in the sticks somewhere)

If you're using Win7, it'll probably work in that too (in Media Center). But it wont if you're using Vista (if its not OEM)

Can it receive Freeview channels?

1202843 2011-05-17 12:50:00 It should get freeview, thats why its called a DVB-T tuner. This is terrestrial, not satellite tho (so, you wont get satellite channels) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1202844 2011-05-17 21:23:00 And be aware, that the supplied software may not work with our Freeview (our DVB-T uses a variant of AAC call HE-AAC-LC that very little software supports) so you may need something like Windows 7 Media Center, Media Portal or GBPVR to hear it.

Also TV1, 2 and 3 - being HD might be hard work for your cpu/gpu to process. Depends on age of hardware of course.

1202845 2011-05-17 21:49:00 The software I downloaded (AverTV) from the Avermedia site works fine with this. It finds all the channels. Gives you an EPG, and records fine.

Hopefully, it does work with yours. Or you've got Windows 7. MP and GBPVR arent that easy to configure for some people

Ok good to know. Is the EPG just the current program and next? Or does it know how to parse the 8 day mheg5 stream?

1202847 2011-05-17 23:04:00 The EPG looks like this. I thought I saw something about Mheg. But I dont think NZ supports this Speedy Gonzales (78)
1202848 2011-05-17 23:42:00 Does it go past the next program? Or a program for tomorrow? If not, then it's just parsing the EIT which for DVB-T is now/next only. If it is then it has an MHEG5 parser. psycik (12851)
1202849 2011-05-17 23:46:00 I got a cheapie from deal extreme (aabout $18us from memory.) Works really well in windows 7 and has a standard uhf plug on it so you can plug it into a larger antenna. Alex B (15479)
