1202687 2011-05-17 03:23:00 We have just had a TBox installed and find that some channels which previously filled the TV screen now have reduced picture size.
Should we have to put up with this or can it be rectified.? Appreciate any help. Thanks.

1202688 2011-05-17 03:44:00 Have you tried the following on the T-box:

- menu (button on remote)
- settings
- general
- TV settings
- aspect ratio

It's not possible to get all of the programmes right on all of the channels.

Some of the Living Channel progs are pre-stretched sideways. Client-side adjustments (how's that for jargon :)) only stretch them further

Edit: It's just occurred to me that you might actually like 4:3 pictures stretched to fill a 16:9 screen?? Surely not!

1202689 2011-05-17 04:20:00 The aspect ratio is on 16:9. I tried it on 4:3 then I get gaps top and bottom. So is this a problem with TBox, as never have the problem (or rarely) with the old Digital Cable Decoder it replaced. Is this the price you pay for having the other facilities on TBox.? Pato (2463)
1202690 2011-05-17 04:56:00 I take it that the TV set is 16:9? And that it is set to display 16:9?

If the TV is 4:3 (or is 16:9 but set to 4:3 ie, told to expect 4:3 incoming) when you connect the T-box putting out 16:9 pictures you can get black bars

There's 4 things to marry:
- the physical aspect ratio of the TV
- the TV's aspect ratio setting (a button on the remote or menu setting)
- the T-box menu setting (tells the T-box what to expect in the way of a TV)
- the aspect ratio of the programme set at the time of filming

The T-box programmes here in Wellington are fine . We use 16:9 in the T-box, the TV is 16:9, the TV remote is set to "full" (ie, 16:9) .

4:3 programmes display with black bars down the sides, as they should . Occasionally some programmes have black bars all round . The Living Channel sometimes has black bars top and bottom while stretched to fill the screen sideways . . .

1202691 2011-05-17 05:07:00 Thanks. I will check all that out. OK about the TBox programmes, but what about other channels. i.e. CNN on chl 91. Used to get full screen and now get a reduced picture. Has about a 4" gap each side on a 32" TV. How do I set the TV remote to "full" please.? Pato (2463)
1202692 2011-05-17 07:42:00 CNN is bad with us too. It used to be OK until about 1 or 2 months ago when it developed the reduced height (and also interference at the top, I think). You could complain to Telstra about that. I would like it fixed too (along with the Living Channel occasional stretching).

But those are about the only complaints. The other 50-odd channels are fine

As for setting the TV set, they're all different. Ours is a Sony Bravia

1202693 2011-05-17 08:08:00 Thanks for that info. Our TV is also a Sony Bravia but have had it for approximately 4 years now. Pato (2463)
1202694 2011-05-17 08:54:00 Our Bravia is only about a year old . The layout of the remote is sure to be different due to the internet facilities that have been introduced .

But the aspect button might still have the same icon .

For us it's a TVscreen type of square box with crosshairs in the middle that extend to the outside of the box in 4 directions . The outer ends have arrowheads

Not sure what is going on but will sort it out in the end . Thanks for your help which is much appreciated .

1202696 2011-05-18 02:40:00 My Sky hdi also mucks up the aspect ratios - and can't be fixed. T box sounds the same. Peter H (220)
