2011-05-16 21:23:00 | I have attempted twice to run install software for 2 new different USB modems on a friends PC. He is on Win XP Pro (clean). The reason for USB is that his mobo has a PCI (all 4 slots) Problem. Apart from that, all is working well. Nothing is inserted in the PCI slots. Here is the Administrator prob: He is logged in as the administrator but attempting to install the software for the modems, we get as far as the setup which brings "newdev.dll " "you do not have administrator rights" and will not proceed to install the drivers and network configurations. I have gone through control panel ,wiped the name and password and started again with and without a password but the administator is not acknowledged when installing the CD software. How the hell can I take control as the administrator ?

2011-05-16 22:41:00 | Check this -- Start the PC in safe mode, log into the Admin account, then control panel/admin tools/computer management. Click local users and groups. Click groups - click administrators, see if your user name is in the members group, if not click add. Then put your user name in the group. Save everything, and reboot normally.

2011-05-17 06:58:00 | Thanks wainui, Ill try it when I visit him later. There is only 1 user account- John Administrator shown in Control Panel-User Accounts. Tried setting a password but right clicking an exe file- then "run as administrator" brings up "Password Wrong"

2011-05-17 07:25:00 | In the Control Panel-User Accounts, there wont be showing the "real" Admin account. It comes available when starting in safe mode, or if you enable it, by default its hidden. | wainuitech (129) | |

2011-05-17 09:45:00 | Theres an end to the learning curve ? :p Put it this way, if you work on computers or like learning about them, it wont stop till the day you die  Thats of course unless a person is one of these know it all's that knows everything there is to know about computers - NO ONE in the world nows everything, if they think they do they need to get their hand off it :xmouth: (for guys) and think again, play with something else. PS, now waiting for a mod to edit this post as to what I wrote
