1168753 2011-01-11 02:11:00 Hi

Can somebody please explain why, and/or when, the "recent" practice (will in forums like this anyway) of putting asterisks around words started eg. "We *only* do open source (well, technically, Free and open source software)."?
That was taken from here (computerworld.co.nz) which is actually an *interesting* debate. (did I do that right?)

Answers please - I'm perplexed! :stare:

1168754 2011-01-11 02:18:00 As per several "Definitions" :p only being a smart arse there  --
Putting asterisks around a word or group of words indicates *emphasis* on that word or group of words.

Generally most people will read something, and if there happens to be a Specific section to an answer, its often overlooked. Especially if the answer is complicated or long.

1168756 2011-01-11 02:29:00 It's an alternative of using CAPITAL letters where it *may* look like excessive shouting :p pcuser42 (130)

Works well, *most* of the time.
