2011-01-13 23:18:00 | Heh, Metla. I just got phoned by some NZ HP guy in Wellington. he says he's end of the line for the problem (sure). I basically told him what you implied there - if I'm not a large commercial customer than tough luck. Also the way they run businesses like this - call centre people who have no info and no authority, bounce around various depts, if there's an issue during that it grinds to a halt and you spend the rest of your life banging your head against a brick wall, and customer care is a joke, it' s all about profits and sales. He said he chased it up and the issue is no stock ant any suppliers (Oh? Ingram perhaps?) and customers don't get told, they just end up waiting for weeks. Funny, they kept telling me it was cause A)They B)The courier needed to confirm my address details etc. And in any case, as I told him Delwyn at Software Shop does have stock of it (Officejet 6000) I could have gone back to her and asked her for another and left her to sort it (RMA) with Ingram or HP themselves but why should I? It's not her fault, shes always helpful, and I don't think sending me another will solve the problem anyway in light of the court cases in the US at present over this exact issue. Here: Class Action Lawsuit has been filed against Hewlett Packard in regards to intentional misrepresentation of their Inkjet Printers capacity/ functioning between 2001 and 2010. The suit combines these three lawsuits into one: 1.Ciolino v. HP This lawsuit claims that certain HP inkjet printers used low on ink messaging technology to indicate that replacement of a cartridge is needed when the cartridge is not empty and is capable of additional printing, and that this technology confused customers into prematurely replacing their inkjet cartridges. HP denies all these claims. 2.Rich v. HP In this lawsuit, plaintiffs claim that certain HP color inkjet printers used color ink in addition to black ink when printing black text and images without disclosing this to consumers and without providing consumers with the option of disabling this feature, that HP misrepresented and/or failed to disclose the actual page yield for the products at issue (including the true basis for the page yield and cost per page information provided to consumers), and that HP failed to disclose its use of color ink when printing black in connection with stating its page yields. HP denies all these claims. 3.Blennis v. HP This lawsuit claims that HP designed certain of its inkjet printers and cartridges to shut down on an undisclosed expiration date, and that at this point consumers are prevented from using the ink that remains in the expired cartridge and from using all of the printers functions until the expired cartridge is replaced. HP denies all these claims. These three lawsuits have been combined into one class action suit. HP denies all allegations, but has proposed the following settlement: a $2 to $6 e-credit for purchases at www.shopping.hp.com (their own commercial site!) for each printer in question, up to $5,000,000 total in e-credits between all effected consumers. Which is scary-brilliant if you think about it. Theyre using the lawsuit as an opportunity for direct advertising! www.hpinkjetprintersettlement.com

2011-01-14 02:36:00 | Epson? Ugh. Don't know about their laser printers but everyone I know who has owned an Epson inkjet has said they were crap, and that the ink cartridges are 'empty' even though you can clearly see the thing is still half full. I love my Canon, you can tell it to print even if the cartridges are completely dry (though that's probably not a good idea)

2011-01-14 02:47:00 | As others have said, their business level support is top notch, even if you're not a business. I bought a high end monitor (which comes with advanced replacement) and have had it exchanged several times due to manufacturing imperfections (dead pixels). Each time, made a call (unfortunately had to go through a few phone menus), but they sent a replacement with courier sticker so i could send the imperfect one back up at their expense.

2011-01-14 04:02:00 | Epson? Ugh. I love my Canon Find me a Canon that does more than 1000 pages per black and doesn't cost more than $49 for the cartridge and I'll buy it. And read here: www.pcworld.com

2011-01-14 04:25:00 | Yeah I know the Canon ink level meter is pretty inaccurate. That's why I keep printing until as they say, you get banding. THEN it's time for a refill. I have no idea what the Canon laser printers are like. I use a Lexmark T522.
