| 1168402 | 2011-01-09 23:27:00 | Cicero, I, like you am thinking about getting a netbook for the same reasons but am wondering if an Ipad would be better. They seem to be taking over from netbooks. I wonder whay others think of that.? I like the ability to close lid and I think the eee has lots more features than a pad,usb port for a start. |

| 1168403 | 2011-01-09 23:44:00 | I seriously considered tablets, so went to Noel Lemons and had a play with one, while its certainly flash and does most of what e netbook will do, I decided against them due to a) not being able to close the lid b) lack of USB built in (needs $50 USB adapter, not included) c) no option to install Linux in the future d) cost e) poor wifi connectivity f) It's apple (although I was considering the Samsung too) I wanted a real keyboard too. Originally I was going to buy the Ipad until I went and had a go with it that put me off and Apples lockdown policy of not allowing you to do anything without their permission and even then nothing really is allowed and I don't use Itunes |

That fully depends on what you'll be using the device for. The iPad is really good for 2 things, internet usage, and fun. By internet usage I mean email, web browsing, facebook, twitter etc. It can do all these things very well. You will probably find the interface easier to manage, use and understand than say a netbook. Where the iPad sacrifices in power, it makes up in ease of use and "fluid" UI. As for the minor quirks (missing keyboard, no cover etc) it is up to you to decide about whether you can live with them. |

IMO most of iOS is very well throught out and intuitive and easy to use, while on a PC you sometimes have to jump through many hoops to change simple settings. That said however, a desktop OS can also do much more than an iPad could ever do, but I'm just saying for simple stuff like note taking, web browsing and email the iPad is easier to use. |

| 1168408 | 2011-01-10 01:53:00 | I know people who use an 2x acers, one is a netbook the other would be classed as a netbook but was actually a small laptop back in the day :p Both run XP, they seem pretty happy with them, they are good for on the move/general use with email and web surfing and the odd job around the place. Just remember, most of them don't have CD/DVD drives built in |

| 1168410 | 2011-01-10 04:14:00 | You gotta remember a pad is not a real computer, it's just a massive smart phone... You can get away with it if all you use is the internet/email... Personally, I would stay way from anything under 13" it's a terrible strain at prolonged use. So I suggest trying one out before you buy it... |

Secondly, if the Usable screen area isn't at least 3 times the area used by toolbars, title bars, status bars, etc then again I don't want it. What's the point of goin ultra portable if you have to spend every few seconds using a scroll bar. |
