Unfortunately many of their advice falls on deaf ears or onto the ground. Sounds like they have a convert. |

From this weekends Australian - Food for Thought: www.theaustralian.com.au I thought the sarcasm was overdone and not enough of the facts on the help dams would have been with the current floods. I can tell you the Greens put a stop to sustainable farming of Rimu on the coast. The utter cads. |

I'm not one to realise a mistake and let it continue, or to realise a massive problem will occur but let its precursor events happen anyway. Sure, what the 'greenies' do can impede economic growth and development. But the main objective is to sustain resources so the rate of growth does not exceed the resources' capacity. Because once you've over-exploited resources the damage is already done, growth will be halted and people will start complaining. That damage may or may not be fixable, either way, society will be left with a massive bill, financially and socially. |

The Greens have been long time opponents of the construction of new dams. Construction of Flood Control Dams, in the cachments of the river systems that have caused the catastrophic flooding of recent weeks would have not only provided major mitigation of flood risk, but also presented a valuable water resource in times of drought and a potential hydro electricity generation.Labour supported the green stance for political purposes. The Wivenhoe Dam in the Brisbane River cachment was built to prevent a repeat of the disasterous 1974 floods, and without that dam, there is a high probability that substantial parts of Brisbane would be flooded now. The Liberal/National Coalition has recently stated that they are going to look at the proposal for flood control dams, to ensure there is no repeat of the current disaster - another stable door action - and this has been met with widespread condemnation by the Greens and Labour. The area of questland currently underwater is larger than the area of France and Germany combined and larger than the State of Texas. This is a multi-billion dollar disaster, |

| 1168357 | 2011-01-10 01:25:00 | It is pointless arguing with the "Greens". Like any radical group they will continue to believe that they are correct and the rest of the world is wrong regardless of the facts. Fortunately the vast majority seem to grow up and take a more balanced view as time passes leaving only the dense or those with ulterior motives to continue to preach the good word. | CliveM (6007) | ||
