| 1202949 | 2011-05-18 00:57:00 | Hi All...Just a couple of small problems. I sit here in my armchair with gifted laptop. I swith on & wait for it to go thro' startup. I get to the "Connected to the Internet" balloon. Most times it just says , Connected, but ocasionally also hast he word, Unsecured. I turn off the Internet Connection & back on again & it is ok. What would be causing this? Next. We are in the process of changing from Orcon ADSL1 to Orcon ADSL2. Same Bronze plan but the difference is ADSL2 & 5gb instead of 2 gb. And 72 cents cheaper a month overall. The ADSL2 is aparrently switched on but we have not yet received the free modem/router gadget that goes with it. We are still on the ADSL1 box. Does that mean that we are limited to ADSL1 speeds & conditions? Just curiosity here as it does appear to be running faster. Thanks PJ |

It just means there is no passord and/or encryption enabled. Not the best Idea for whover the network belongs to. As to the ADSL speed, it depends on your current modem and what has been done to make the change. If you have recently been transferred to a new cabinet in your general vicinity for example it will likely be faster due to the shorter distance involved. It's also possible the modem you have is already able to do ADSL2. |

If so maybe thats possibly what your laptop is connecting to, set up your password/encryption right away; do that on your new one too. If not, you are using someone elses internet connection, go into your wireless connections and stop that connection connecting(!) automatically (or turn off your wifi); it is illegal to use anothers wifi without their knowledge/permission) |

| 1202955 | 2011-05-18 06:42:00 | For the first Q. This is how it was before the changeover & is the same now. The new ADSL2 router has arrived & we will get someone to instal it & check security. So I expect we are still at ADSL1 speeds. Yes there is a new box & only a 100m away. Our setup at the moment is :- D-Link DSL504t ADSL1 router 4 way. From this into a Belkin54G wireless router. From this are two hardwired comps which don't get much use & two wifi laptops which do. Security measures are in place Except for the occasional abberation on my laptop. When I connect to the Internet, there is a screen that shows it happening. It shows the Belkin 54G connecting. Sometimes it also picks up a Thompson Router nearby,it too is secure. PJ |
