1168823 2011-01-11 07:42:00 As some of you may know my old dv5's processor upped and died . SincE hp no longer stock the original and the replacement isslower I will probably be buying a new laptop .

Right now I am looking at HP's high performance and envy series, I quite like HP laptops and will be happy to buy another one .

I will be using it for mid range gaming, nothing ultra mind blowing but enough to run the latest games with mild fidelity .

What would you reccomend? I'd like a desktop much mor but I need the portability .

Price cap at 2000, HD screen is preferred but not a absolute must .

TiA and cheers for suggestions

1168824 2011-01-11 07:46:00 IMO stick to Asus and Toshiba. pcuser42 (130)
1168825 2011-01-11 08:19:00 Sorry for the spelling, never try to write any more than a sentence on an iTouch .

to add to that, I do a lot of image editing and programming on my machine, not just gaming although usually a capable gaming machine ill run PS adequately . It will also be the host PC for my MT table project, if it can render HD graphics and 3D smoothly it should be ok .

Also, 3D capability, nice but not required .

in my experience Asus are not that nice aesthetically and have a high cost to performance ratio . also noticed they tend to break easily . I have quite a few turn up for repairs at 'keale .

If you have a particular one you recommend I'd have a look though .

I don't have a particular model in mind, I'm just saying Asus or Toshiba because everyone else on here says so. :p

In terms of reliability, my Eee 701 is turning four this year (includes a year of store display) and is still going strong.

1168827 2011-01-11 08:41:00 I say Asus and Toshiba because a certain survey (www.engadget.com) showed they had the lowest failure rates. Agent_24 (57)
1168828 2011-01-11 10:47:00 Get a probook or elite book if you are going HP...this is coming from someone that fixed them for 3 years. Alex B (15479)

So you're saying the midrange/high end business HP notebooks are good? ie you haven't needed to fix them in the 3 years you've worked...?

The problem is they generally wont have discrete graphics, but they will tend to have an expresscard slot which means you can use a desktop graphics card on them anyway...

1168831 2011-01-11 23:15:00 He's probably just hoping you'll buy one, knowing it will break, and then he can fix it for you

Nah they are probably the most reliable or most easy to fix, I expect.

1168832 2011-01-11 23:21:00 I've had my dv6 for around 15 months now.

Only problem was the battery which they replace over the phone.
