1204404 2011-05-23 19:21:00 I have a bought a cheap second hand laptop which has a Dlink DWL-650+ PCMCIA wifi card that im trying to set up to connect to my WIFI network which has WPA security set.
I have download the last drivers from the dlink website which say they support WPA as long as its only TKIP encrypted and not AES which i have checked and my wifi is set to use TKIP but i am just unable to get it to connect. the laptop sees the wifi network and i get a great signal but i never get an IP address, i have reset the wifi password with no joy and can connect to it from my HTC phones wifi so i know the password is correct.

If i turn off security on my wifi the laptop will connect then so i know the wifi card in the laptop does work just not when i set it to WPA encrypted.
The laptops has a fresh install of XP on there so i am fairly sure its no other software on the laptop thats interfering with it.
Does anyone have any experience in getting one of these wifi cards to connect to a WPA secured wifi? I know the wifi card is pretty old as the drivers from Dlink are from about 2004 but i don't want to have to spend any more money on this laptop buying a new wifi adapter when it has one that does appear to work just not when i turn on security and i don't want to risk having no security on my wifi incase some enterprising individuals decide to steal my wifi. Any help would be mucho appreciated

1204405 2011-05-23 20:18:00 Lower the security on your wireless modem. Try WEP and if it works keep going up to WPA etc to see what works. Safari (3993)
1204406 2011-05-24 02:57:00 Have you installed XP SP3? SP2 does not have full WPA support and a KB was released later which is included in SP3 tmrafi (5179)
