1204347 2011-05-23 03:45:00 Am setting up a replacement router (the new Netgear DGND3700) and as only do this about every 45 years am having probs remembering where to find everything!
Think have found:
IP Address, IP Subnet Address, Gateway Address but can’t track down the Primary and Secondary DNS Address’s. Tried cmd.exe then ipconfig /all but can’t really figure them out.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks

1204348 2011-05-23 03:48:00 Primary and secondary are ISP ip DNS addresses. Go to your ISP's site Speedy Gonzales (78)

Yea but you don't normally have to enter these in, the router will get them automatically from your ISP.
Your PC then has its DNS set to the router IP and any DNS queries are forwarded on to the ISP ones by the router.

1204350 2011-05-23 03:54:00 True but you can use them. Thats if you leave them on auto Speedy Gonzales (78)
1204351 2011-05-23 05:14:00 If you ever get stuck, you can use:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

Easy to remember ;)
code.google.com

There's also OpenDNS and other free providers, but that's probably just confusing things. The aforementioned will (at the very least) get you up and running.

1204352 2011-05-23 06:12:00 Are you using the ADSL or the Cable option?

If its Cable(telstra) you do need to put in the DNS other wise it wont work, If its ADSL, then it should pick it automatically.

Who is the ISP ?

1204353 2011-05-23 07:24:00 if in doubt, leave it blank, and it should work for most connections Agent_24 (57)
1204354 2011-05-23 08:38:00 I use 8.8.8.8 as my secondary DNS - remember a few years ago when BOTH Xtra's DNS servers went down ? decibel (11645)
