| 1204331 | 2011-05-23 02:07:00 | Got one of those Acer Aspire One netbooks that were on sale a few weeks ago, but looking to sell that and buy a decent laptop off Trademe. Since it doesn't have a disc drive, it's a bit of a mish installing a new OS via USB. What should I do to it before I sell it - I want to remove all my details and stuff including my account. Basically I want it to be fresh for when I sell it. Easiest way of doing this? Thanks |

| 1204332 | 2011-05-23 02:22:00 | You could use Dban if it supports booting from a flash drive | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 1204333 | 2011-05-23 02:26:00 | Will Dban keep the Win 7 Starter on there? Or will I have to reinstall that? | Wardog (6821) | ||

| 1204335 | 2011-05-23 02:31:00 | Dban wipes everything completely. So everything will go. You'll have to reinstall Windows.. Thats if it doesnt wipe the partition as well (if its there) | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||

I was thinking of selling it for about $320ish. I've got the native Win 7 Starter dual booted with Ubuntu 10 or 11 (can't remember which one I installed.) |

So you think this will be the best option? Then I'll have to track down a copy of Win 7 Starter from somewhere... Shouldn't be too hard though. It doesn't clear the BIOS though does it? (probably a stupid question but I don't wanna be screwed over) |

| 1204338 | 2011-05-23 02:46:00 | No it wipes the hdd clean. As if it wasnt used.. Like its a new hdd. Till you format / partition / reinstall windows. So, if someone buys it, they wont be able to recover anything. It takes a while tho. Depending on how big the hdd is. The bigger the hdd, the longer it'll take. It doesnt touch the BIOS. There isnt a hidden partition on it with an ISO or something is there?? If there is copy it to something |

| 1204339 | 2011-05-23 03:00:00 | You could also use partition wizard home edition (http://www.partitionwizard.com/). It allows you to wipe a selected partition or entire drive. If you have a recovery partition for windows starter pack than, use this to wipe your active partition and than reinstall windows from the recovery partition. | ronyville (10611) | ||
| 1204340 | 2011-05-23 03:01:00 | Nah I don't have any hidden partitions I don't think (well assuming it doesn't come with hidden ones.) Yeah sweet. Might give it a go. Thanks for the help |
