1203569 2011-05-20 05:35:00 Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a motherboard to replace an old PC. I want the cheapest solution possible. I have a 478 processor laying around so obviously that would be preferred, but whatever else is fine. Please post what you have & prices (if you have an unwanted CPU, please post that price too).

Thanks!

1203570 2011-05-20 05:45:00 You'll be lucky to get a socket 478 now, they're pretty much obsolete. You may get one 2nd hand tho. But whether it'll work is another matter. If you decide to get another mobo, you'll have to get another CPU and maybe ram as well Speedy Gonzales (78)
1203571 2011-05-20 05:47:00 Thanks for your reply. 2nd hand is all I'm looking for. I already have a 478 CPU and another (socket A I think?). Also got a bunch of spare SD ram and DDR ram so that's no problem. danielm8 (16385)
1203572 2011-05-20 05:50:00 Socket 478 is 10+ years old... You won't find brand new.

Any price you pay will be a waste. You are best off getting a new motherboard/CPU/ram. So the question here is, what's your budget?

1203575 2011-05-20 05:58:00 Already looked there, was just looking for cheaper options for mobo only (they all include CPU too)... just need a 478 motherboard as cheap as possible. danielm8 (16385)
1203576 2011-05-20 06:05:00 So $25-$40 Via Trademe is to expensive for a board and CPU -------

Com'on get real. Thats dirt cheap.

Why dont you just say you want it for free.:groan:

1203577 2011-05-20 06:06:00 Only looking for the board. No CPU. danielm8 (16385)
1203578 2011-05-20 22:06:00 So take the CPU off once you buy it and use yours.

Those are refurbished boards that are in the link, with a 14 day warranty, which means they will go when you buy them other wise they have to replace.

Some people will sell faulty boards on trademe, and no warranty, try getting a refund from those people -- its usually more trouble that its worth.

$30 for a working board and CPU is dirt cheap.

In my workshop ( I own a computer business) I have a box with many CPU's 478 etc, all work fine but no boards - if I wanted a board I wouldn't hesitate, because most of those boards when new would have been over $100 with the CPU even higher.

Have you even bothered to look on trade ME ?? Bet not heres one (www.trademe.co.nz) $5 but it comes with a CPU

NO Warranty -- or is to expensive as well because it has a CPU included.

BUT look what the seller wrote "DONT KNOW THE CONDITION OF BOARD"."AS IS WHERE IS SALE" "AS IS WHERE IS SALE MEANS POSITIVE FEEDBACK" ---- yeah right.

I'd rather pay $30 and get one thats got a warranty and works than one that may already be dead.

Hell if you wanted dead ones I have a about 20 that are going up the recycle station later today, in fact They are about to be loaded in the car along with lots of other components to be recycled.
