1203459 2011-05-20 01:35:00 Some how I appear to have lost the Windows Media Player. When I load a CD for a wave file and click on Medial Player to start, I get the hour glass for about 3 secs and then the hour glass disappears but nothing happens. Can you offer some suggestions please? Thanks:mad: Swampy (2426)
1203460 2011-05-20 01:42:00 Hi there, a bit more info is needed, mainly which OS are you running? XP, Vista or Win7? Thanks. wratterus (105)
1203461 2011-05-20 01:43:00 open up "Task Manager" and under "Processees" check if it is already running, should be wmplayer.exe, if it is than end that process and try playing the CD again. ronyville (10611)
1203462 2011-05-20 01:53:00 Sorry, I have done it again. We are using XP SP3. Looked in the Task Manager and it is not running. Swampy (2426)
1203463 2011-05-20 02:12:00 Try to right click on the wav file, open with and choose windows media player then. Make sure you tick the box to always use that program. Snorkbox (15764)
1203464 2011-05-20 02:13:00 Download from here (www.microsoft.com)and try reinstalling. Either there's a file association muck up, which reinstalling should fix, or WMP has just got stuffed for some reason, which reinstalling should also fix. wratterus (105)
1203465 2011-05-20 02:44:00 Thanks. When I download and run this file, I get a message telling me that I have a newer version of Media Player and that I can not run an older version. How do I get rid of the version I have installed so that I can download and run the older version then run an upgrade? I do not see it in the list of applications when I go into the Control Panel – Un-install programs.:badpc: Swampy (2426)
1203466 2011-05-20 03:02:00 Interesting - the latest version on WMP you can install on XP ix v11 so there's something interesting going on there. You are 100% sure you're running XP, not Vista? If you go to control panel, add/remove programs and tick 'show updates' WMP11 it should show up there, and let you remove it. wratterus (105)
1203467 2011-05-20 03:08:00 Sorry - again - IT IS Vista:mad: Swampy (2426)
1203468 2011-05-20 03:09:00 Riight, that explains a lot. :p

All good.

Give me a second...

Edit - right, try this first...

Open the run box (windows key +r) then type regsvr32 wmp.dll and hit enter.

Then this if that doesn't work...

Rename the "Windows Media" folder located in c:\users\*username*\appdata\local\microsoft

you may need to enable viewing of hidden files and folders if it isn't already - just type 'folder options' into the search box on the start menu, open the folder options icon, go to the view tab and select the box that says 'show hidden files and folders'.
