1171379 2011-01-21 02:32:00 Hi

So the IRD website tax calculator is based on annual based salary. I can't even find the tax rate for payments for the kinda pay I'm receiving.
It's a 3 month contract with $18hr . 8Hrs 30mins, Mon- Friday..

I wanna work out how much tax is each day?

Does anyone who's familiar with tax rates have ny idea?

1171380 2011-01-21 02:35:00 Look at your payslip.

I *think* tax is worked out as if you are being paid $18/hr for how many hours per week for the full year.

Let's say you are being paid $20/hr, that is approx $40k for the year. You are taxed at as if you are earning $40k/year. So each week there is a deduction automatically done (for most people). Should you get no job for the other 9 months or a better paying job or a lesser paying job, it will all be included when you request an evaluation. Eg., for those who quit a job half way thru the year and went to study or just lost their job, it's not suprising that they may get back $3,000 in tax return (but you have to apply for it).

If you plan on doing a tax rebate, you need to fill some forms out and they back you back then.

. salaries . co . nz/a/salary-tax-calculator/" target="_blank">www . salaries . co . nz

Enter amount .
It's accurate too - I checked it by doing it manually as well, and handy because it takes into account ACC and Kiwisaver (or not , as you choose) .

1171384 2011-01-21 08:02:00 nijabear, hi.

Use pctech's link:

www.salaries.co.nz

and your spreadsheet to get to daily tax.

Days Hrs Total Pay rate Weekly $ Yearly Salary
5 8.5 42.5 $18.00 $765.00 52 $39,780.00
3 months equals $9,945.00
Tax rate 0.105 $1,044.23
Daily tax 1044.23/365 $2.86

pcteh, presume my workings are still good, lol

Lurking.

1171385 2011-01-21 09:32:00 You are taxed as if you earn that weekly amount every week for a full year and the adjustment is not made until your tax return unless the employer sets it up otherwise.

On that basis, and because you don't work 365 days per year, 365/7 x 5 =260 paid days.

1044/260 = $4.00 per day if spread over a full year of 5 day weeks, or $16.00 per day if calculated over three months.

It is all hypothetical though because you can't calculate your daily tax without knowing some finite figures in terms of income, and hours/days worked. The IRD calculator is as close as you'll get but you still have to enter the figures correctly.

Cheers
