1171007 2011-01-19 10:54:00 As far as mobile OS's go i'm not an expert. I have worked with some minor iOS dev programs and a tiny tiny bit of GUI with android. Done more work with symbian than the others.

After washing my w508 accidentally (not a good way to clean it :p) I have come to the somewhat premature state of phone hunting.

I like the idea of having an HTC or Galaxy/nexus but I don't know if it will be practical since I liked the way the w508 was easy to text on and quick to operate. not that I do a lot of texting (no more than 700 per month) its just that the w508 was really snappy to use for everything it offered.

Basicly, my concern is that a smart phone will be too much of a toy for me, and all though it does everything I'd like it to do and more, when it comes down to basic use, will the bloody thing be too hard to use?

Can you guys (and gals) please give me an idea of what these things are like to own and use on an every day basis? and what would you recommend to buy and/or steer clear of.

The one thing that seems to be drawing me to the 3GS is it is a bit more focused to the music playing side, something that i'd make good use of, also. since one of my mates has one, and I have toyed around a bit more deeply than the HTC devices I can say they seem pretty good going. I just hate the closed confines of iOS. none of the apps seem very inventive from what I have seen.

if course if I did buy an iPhone (about <NZD $650 for 32gb 3GS in china) I would jaibreak it :D

1171009 2011-01-19 19:44:00 I think it mostly depends on what apps you're thinking of running. As a recent nokia to iphone (4) convert I'm loving what mine does...but I make about 1 txt a month, 1 call a month - but chew through 500MB of mobile data on mine (+ wifi at home).

And with this I, read books, play music, stream video (wifi), run exercise tracking apps, take HD video, read internet news, check my trades, and a bunch of web browsing. I use it at home more than my laptop.

So for me it's been well worth it, and it was a toss up between the phone and a Netbook. I'm glad i went this way.

I'm also pretty keen on the WP7 phones only from the standpoint that I could develop on it easier than iphone (no mac here). And android strikes me as a bit immature at the moment, too fragmented, too volitile.

It opens up a whole world of opportunities :D

Although you could look at a Nexus S maybe?
