1170929 2011-01-19 01:02:00 Whilst on vacation the fuel gage died on by Bedford camper. Stuck on full even with key turned off. Sender rooted as well the little brass wiper has fallen off.
So totally over J,early TK, VAS SB3 Bedford fuel gages and senders is there a sender unit and gage that I can retrospectively fit? Not at all interested in any thing that has the word boat or marine in the same sentence.
Dont want the fuel indicating system to be the same price as the Bedford.

1170930 2011-01-19 01:21:00 My fuel guage works, but it lies. So it's not trustworthy, especially when petrol is down low.

So I just go by the trip meter.

1170931 2011-01-19 01:56:00 Just treat the fuel as follows .... E = enough .... F = Fark All .... Keep putting gas in and work off your k's travelled ... :D

Smith's (UK) used to make universal gauges ... but expensive. I know someone who works at a car crushing plant down here and could ask him to keep an eye out for a Bedford van ... but couldn't give you any idea when one might come through.

Have you tried Repco for universal gauges ... or the they same price as the van ?? ... :D

1170932 2011-01-19 02:11:00 A lot of our buses have faulty fuel gauges. We rely more on fuelling the buses up at the end of the trip rather that trusting the fuel gauge reading. Bobh (5192)

Thanks for reply
Its not for van but 11 metre bus, tried Repco but they dont have a universal sender. I would be dubious about Smith gauges in same league as Lucas.
I need both sender and gage got fuel tank out so I can modify it for another sender and calibrate it for zero fuel.

1170934 2011-01-19 02:47:00 Smiths used to be quite good quality wise ... the other on I used to deal with was Veglia Borletti but wouldn't have a clue who stocks them these days ... I'm going back 20years .. :D SP8's (9836)
1170935 2011-01-19 03:08:00 in true DIY fashioon, make one!!

As for a new one, no idea where to get a guage from, I had a petrol sender that I got cheap for one of our flatbed trucks. unfortunately the diesel didn't agree with it

1170937 2011-01-19 20:55:00 Try STA down Manukau direction, Supercheap, Segedins Dominion Rd area somewhere would do gauges. As for the sender, couldn't you get the old one repaired? I think it would be easier than trying to seal the tank after cutting it up to fit another type of sender. Or are you using the original tank fitting & modifying it's innards Phil B (648)
1170938 2011-01-19 23:26:00 Thanks for reply Phil. Found found this although marine it is slightly less value than the bus. www.smartmarine.co.nz The little brass bits that wipe the resistor have broken off they are really small not sure it could be repaired be watchmaker sort of stuff. Gage shagarooed been microsoldered up before in its life was unreliable when it was working
At the end of the day when repaired I still have a **** english gage and sender.
