1169945 2011-01-15 21:41:00 Hi Guys

Any of you traders or retailers out there come up with an easy formula to calculate the GST component and the net of a items retail price.

We used to divide by 9.

Its easy to add on 15% to the net, but going the other way is not so easy. Or even a spreadsheet formula would be a help.

I remember reading years ago that the next easy GST figure would have been 17.5%.

1169948 2011-01-15 22:03:00 Divide the GST inclusive price by 1.15 to get the amount before GST was added.

Subtract that result from the GST inclusive price to get the GST figure.

1169949 2011-01-15 22:30:00 Used to be a lot simpler when GST was only 10% at the start. 12.5% was also a breeze to work out but 15 percent is a bit odd ball. 20% is the next higher easy to work out (don't tell the government).

I put the formula supplied by lakewoodlady thru its paces - works for me.

Multiply the full GST inclusive price by 3 then divide that result by 23. The end result will be the GST amount.

This one works very well. Thanks Paul.Cov

1169951 2011-01-15 23:10:00 Great thanks guys

So its multiply the gross by 3 then divide by 23 to get the gst amount

And its divide the gross by 1.15 to get the net amount

Looks like I'll have to throw my Casio MS 8T calculator away.

1169953 2011-01-21 02:06:00 You can also divide the gst inclusive amount by 7.66666666 (Has to be to 8 decimal points) to get the gst portion. Have a look here: www.ird.govt.nz Webbnzl (8810)
