1171179 2011-01-20 23:08:00 The inquiry will be led by former Ombudsman Mel Smith, and will investigate matters including the extent to which the 12 agencies involved with the girl's family shared information and collaborated.
The agencies include Child, Youth and Family, Housing NZ, doctors, mental health workers, and caregivers.
"Every available resource was provided in this case, including some of our most expensive and trusted intervention models for at-risk families, yet a child suffered appalling abuse and I want to know why," Ms Bennett said.

How did the initial report find there was no major malfunction by any of the departments?

There’s a lot of explaining to be done by a lot of people on this one!

1171180 2011-01-20 23:28:00 I am starting to lose confidence in Paula Bennett.

The girls mother (who looks a bit weird to me) wrote to the PM asking fro help, he passed the letter on to Paula Bennett.

So why does she not tell us what she did about it.
Instead of asking for a report.

And the girls teacher had passed concerns on to WINZ so why does Paul Bennett not tell us what the Winz person did about it ?

If you are into controversy, then that is what you would do, they try to keep their heads down unless it is to their advantage.

It called politicising.

Exactly. CYFs own report said them or other agnecies didn't screwup.
Outrageous.

Betya Paula Bennet never even saw those initial reports - or heard anything that the teacher had said. Something probably got filed away by someone and never looked at.
Govt depts are good at that........

1171183 2011-01-21 04:46:00 Starting to think there should an inquiry into why there are 12 agencies plod (107)
1171184 2011-01-21 05:05:00 The clue here is that there were multiple stuff ups thus we can call it systemic and we can't point the finger at any one person and make them responsible. Snorkbox (15764)
1171185 2011-01-21 05:51:00 Sad to say, nothing will change, the system is so entrenched. Cicero (40)
1171186 2011-01-21 06:44:00 Yes they always hide behind that term - Systemic Failure.

Well if it is systemic find out who set up the system and fire them and change the system.

1171187 2011-01-21 06:47:00 I had always thought it terrible that here in NZ with a land of milk and honey and benefits for all strange that we have so much child abuse.

You would have thought there would be more child abuse in Ethipoia or Bangladesh where they can't feed their children. But it seems we are top in the world.

Apparently The Herald did a cartoon on this today.

1171188 2011-01-21 19:57:00 I wonder if any work has been done to find out why these people get off killing and maiming children? Cicero (40)
