1170372 2011-01-27 20:26:00 Hmmmm. Must be what? 800 miles or so then. About 1300Km? SurferJoe46 (51)
1170373 2011-01-27 20:34:00 According to Google Earth it is 644km and should take 8hrs and 4 mins. Our open road speed limit is 100kph.
:)

1170374 2011-01-27 20:34:00 643 km according to Google Maps Snorkbox (15764)
1170375 2011-01-27 21:28:00 That 1km difference between Google Earth and Google Maps is possibly either due to daylight savings time or recent earthquakes stretching the country's geography... :D johcar (6283)
1170376 2011-01-27 22:28:00 That's only @410 miles. That's only 5½ hours. SurferJoe46 (51)
1170377 2011-01-27 22:44:00 Our roads have corners in them Joe - you can't take them all safely at 65mph...

Plus there are often things like towns, wandering stock and motor homes blocking the way....

1170378 2011-01-27 22:48:00 Corners?

I can drive for 8 hours at 75 MPH/121KPH and never see anything but white lines, an occasional gas station, my windshield and dead bugs on it.

I could too, but much of that trip would be on the seabed (and at that speed, for the bit above the water, I would be being chased by cars with red and blue flashing lights)... :D

1170380 2011-01-27 23:16:00 Don't worry, your cops aren't even armed - what're they gonna do to you IF they CAN catch you anyway!?!.

That's only at 75 MPH, not 100!

Montana has no actual daylight-driving speed limits, and I can go 600 miles a lot faster there. Most cops look the other way if the roads are clear and not too much traffic.

I get caught having to drive over 100MPH just going to San Diego past the Miramar US Naval Air Station during commute time. The semi-trucks (double/bottom dumps) are running over 100 and you'd better not try to slow them down.

Actually you even see the Blue-Hair Specials* going that fast too.

* Blue Hair Specials: apparently driver-less vehicles with eight knuckles and blue hair as the only thing you can see through the rear window.

1170381 2011-01-30 08:36:00 About a 50 min flight in a B 737 or about an 8 or 9 hr drive by car. Thats for Twelvevolts who lives in Wellington which Ngauranga is a suburb of.
:)

Yep about twenty minutes to the airport and then a scheduled one hour flight in an Airbus A320, but the flight only takes about 45 to 50 minutes. Unfortunately Auckland airport is not exactly close to town, so another hour to get into town on the regular land bus. I love that, the flying time is less than the trip in from the airport.

Wasn't too bad a weekend, place was full of cruise ship types (elderly Americans in tennis shoes and shorts), and no one in Queen Street appears to keep left when walking like they do here in Welly.
