| 1171159 | 2011-01-20 04:34:00 | In the Herald: A Child, Youth and Family report into the care received by a nine-year-old girl who suffered "horrific" abuse at the hands of her parents has found no single glaring failure by any of the 12 state agencies involved. The report, which will not be released until charges against the girl's parents have been heard, found there was "no single glaring failure on the part of any of the agencies involved with the child's family", Social Development Minister Paula Bennett said. However, Ms Bennett has now initiated an independent ministerial inquiry into what she said was a "horrific" case and the worst she had seen. Former Ombudsman Mel Smith has been appointed to lead the inquiry, beginning immediately and reporting back by the end of March. The extent to which the numerous agencies involved with the family shared information with each other and whether agencies were "sufficiently child-focused" are among matters that will be investigated by the inquiry, said Ms Bennett. The report will also examine whether the multiple agencies and individuals involved with the family in the lead-up to the girl's abuse took all appropriate actions to ensure her safety. "Every available resource was provided in this case, including some of our most expensive and trusted intervention models for at-risk families, yet a child suffered appalling abuse and I want to know why," she said. CYFs should all be sacked. |

None the less, we pay a fortune for this service, wouldn't we expect them to pick up on some of these buggers? No argument about it the parents are #1 at fault . |

You make me sick thinking pctek does not blame the parents . I see that you too blame CYFs . Fair enough, they're an easy target . If some sections of our society cannot or will not act in the interests of their children, I do not blame the people manning the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff, in this case CYFs . As far as what pctek said, at no point in her post did I see any mention of blaming parents . I only read that CYFs should all be sacked . Funnily enough, I agree with that point as I'm sick of my taxes being used to sort out the oxygen thieving rabble that make up too great a part of our society . Whilst making you sick wasn't my intention, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it . |

I am sure PCtek does not condone in any way what happened to the little girl at all. Why don't you read the post very carefully again. Also I think an apology to PCTek wouldn't be amiss! LL |
