1204789 2011-05-25 06:53:00 Hey,

I want to be able to monitor the hardware on a DL360 running ESXi. I've looked around and it seems possible but I cannot find even one decent article/video on how to do this. On the HP site for this model server it seems to only have the agents for ESX, not ESXi.

Any help appreciated :)

Hmm, possibly but before I try and mess around with SNMP I might try the free monitor solution from Veeam (which is taking its time to download).

The server is a G3, forgot to mention that above.

1204792 2011-05-25 08:27:00 Turns out the Veeam Monitor shows the same information as VSphere, see below. I guess I will have to figure out SNMP if I'm to get this to work. WarNox (8772)
1204793 2011-05-25 09:56:00 Why not roll up to esxi 4.1 and see if there is any improvement, I didn't think there was that much in the way of sensor tech on something as old as a G3. Alex B (15479)

Because anything about 3.5 requires 64bit and G3 doesn't like that either :)

I'm sure that if I just had a normal windows OS with Insight Manager installed it would report fine, so why not through ESXi?

1204795 2011-05-25 21:29:00 Yeah I'm stuck on 3.5 with some 32-bit Hardware of mine too :( Chilling_Silence (9)

How much more info you need, ESX 4x doesnt give much more with the agents anyway...

1204797 2011-05-25 23:20:00 Depends on server I think, Im looking an a DL380G7 and see quite a bit of info, power usage stats, fan % etc etc this is with ESX so may be different.

Infact it's reporting no alerts or warnings on 471 sensors

1204798 2011-05-26 01:52:00 Well storage is the main one I'd like to see, so if a HDD in the raid fails I know about it without having to check the lights manually on site.

Maybe it is server dependent, rather than ESX. But I'm sure even a G3 is able to report through the Insight Manager.
