I am not very technical and I stumbled on it by chance. There must be many deaf and hearing impaired people around who would welcome such a solution and I think it should have wider publicity than just a PC World forum. I have registered in the forum only to try and contact you. I can follow your solution reasonably well but I have a couple of questions. First will the VCR continue to work when we switch over to fully digital? And second will the decoder still work in fully digital? If I decide to go ahead and try and implement your solution I will probably run into further problems so would appreciate your assistance if you are willing. My email address in case you cannot get it is:- [email address removed - Moderator] John Lambie |

I used to have a VCR that recorded teletext subtitles. Teletext is on the way out, and subtitles are broadcast with freeview these days. |

| 1171745 | 2011-01-23 09:59:00 | Subtitles on Freeview are through an emulated teletext system. Support can be spotty for outputting teletext to anything, as it's broadcast during the VBI (Vertical Blanking Interval), and since many STBs have their own teletext decoder built-in, they have no reason to output it as well. However, so long as the subtitles are displayed while it's being recorded, then you should have no problem recording them on anything, as it's being outputted as plain video, no teletext recording needed. |
