| 1171736 | 2011-01-22 08:16:00 | Well, I prepped myself and was pretty confident on getting a Samsung with android on it. The one I had chosen was the Galaxy S, simple right? wrong!! There are about 1001 galaxy phones, which is fine because they al have the same specs, they are just targeted at different countries, eg China has the i909, korea has the i9000 (or something like that) The difference is price and internal storage. However one thing that I cannot figure is what networks these things support. The samsung NZ site shows that the galaxy supports 850 / 1,900 / 2,100 MHz on WCDMA (works on telecom basicly) Samsung china states that the Galaxy S (no model No. given) runs on UMTS + GSM(850/900/1800/1900MHz) two brochures I picked up at stores state differently, the I9000 (also known as the I9008) states that it supports TD-SCDMA 1880/2010 MHz and the I909 brochure states something about CDMA 2000 EVDO 800MHz and CDMA 2000 EVDO Rev. A I think I saw on the Korean site that the S supports 850Mhz WCDMA but i'm not sure and now it [the site] is not showing any frequency's just WCDMA/GSM The model I am looking at is a galaxy S with 16 gb internal storage running android 2.2 (contradicting some samsung sites saying that the galaxy only runs 2.1) The store says its a korean model (cheaper) and said it was a I9000 although i'm not sure if it's that EXACT model or they are just saying its the same one. GSM arena (www.gsmarena.com) say that it does not support 850 MHz WCDMA... WTF!!! So, as you (and I) are probably well and truly confuse by the sh** heap that I seem to have dug can someone PLEASE help me here :thanks I am at a complete loss as to whether this thing will work on telecom. Unfortunately I don't get any Vodafone signal where I live so voda/2 deg and orcon are unsuitable really, that means it pretty much HAS to support 3G 850 MHz because I am tethered to telecom by bad voda coverage in my area. So will this "thing" work on telecom? apart from this confusion I really like this Galaxy. I can get it for around 700 NZD. TIA!! |

| 1171740 | 2011-01-22 11:22:00 | I was just about to make a quadruple post :p AFTER buying it I re read the articles re the "hack" to 850 3G... I don't think it will work. So after a massive mental tantrum I calmed myself down enough to think.. well sell it on trademe seemed logical. now THAT would be a good idea IF there were not all ready 100's of other chinese imports (same model) being hawked off at about $880. If I do have to sell I'll put it in at around 750-850, good for a voda/2 degrees user looking for a bargain. then i'll go back to phone hunting. A bit of a shame since it's a REALLY nice phone (and really expensive for me :() |
